Publication number: 20180302793Abstract: A wireless access point has a physically-embedded hardware-trust key and serves User Equipment (UE) with hardware-trusted wireless data communications. The wireless access point receives a hardware-trust challenge number and responsively generates a hardware-trust result with the physically-embedded hardware-trust key and the hardware-trust challenge number. The wireless access point transfers the hardware-trust result and receives an access hardware-trust digital certificate. The wireless access point wirelessly receives a hardware-trusted attachment request from the UE and wirelessly transfers the access hardware-trust digital certificate to the UE. The UE validates the access hardware-trust digital certificate. The wireless access point wirelessly exchanges user data with the UE responsive to the UE validating the access hardware-trust digital certificate. The wireless access point exchanges the user data with a data network.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 13, 2018Publication date: October 18, 2018Inventors: Lyle Walter Paczkowski, George Jason Schnellbacher

Patent number: 9980144Abstract: A wireless relay serves User Equipment (UE) with hardware-trusted wireless data communications over Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 links and Long Term Evolution (LTE) links. The wireless relay maintains hardware-trusted wireless backhaul links to a data network. The wireless relay broadcasts an IEEE 802.11 Service Set Identifier (SSID) and a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) Network Identifier (NID). The UE wirelessly transfers a hardware-trusted attachment request using the 802.11 SSID or the LTE NID. The wireless relay validates hardware-trust of the UE, and in response, establishes a hardware-trusted attachment of the UE. The wireless relay exchanges user data with the UE using hardware-trusted circuitry. The wireless relay exchanges the user data over hardware-trusted wireless backhaul links.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2017Date of Patent: May 22, 2018Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Lyle Walter Paczkowski, George Jason Schnellbacher

Patent number: 9622135Abstract: Systems, methods, apparatuses, and software for providing redirection control of communications over a wide area network for user devices over a wireless local area network are provided herein. In one example, a method of operating a wireless network device is provided. The method includes receiving a connection request from a user device over the wireless local area network, and responsive to the connection request, identifying a traffic plan for the user device based at least on one or more policy factors associated with the user device. When the traffic plan indicates redirected access, then the method includes establishing a tunnel to a cellular communication network associated with the user device and routing the communications of the user device over the tunnel. When the traffic plan indicates local access, then the method includes routing the communications of the user device to the wide area network.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 2014Date of Patent: April 11, 2017Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Bhanu Prakash Voruganti, John Gatewood, Sharon L. Patent number: 9036557Abstract: A wireless communication device communicates using a Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless protocol and a different wireless protocol. The wireless device processes a first user input to direct a wireless transceiver to transmit and receive using the different wireless protocol and to direct a wireless paging receiver receive using the LTE wireless protocol. The transceiver then transmits and receives using the different wireless protocol, and the paging receiver receives pages using the LTE wireless protocol. The device processes a second user input to direct the transceiver to transmit and receive using the LTE wireless protocol, and the transceiver uses the LTE wireless protocol. In some examples, the device also processes the second user input to direct the paging receiver to receive other pages using the different wireless protocol, and the paging receiver receives the other pages using the different wireless protocol.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2014Date of Patent: May 19, 2015Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: George Jason Schnellbacher, Louis Eric Wingo, Zhisheng Chen

Patent number: 8699414Abstract: A wireless communication device receives a first user instruction to execute a first application requiring first wireless communications. The device selects a first wireless protocol for the first wireless communications based on the first application. A transceiver in the device exchanges the first wireless communications with a first wireless communication access node using the first wireless protocol and monitors a first paging channel of the first wireless protocol. A paging receiver monitors a second paging channel of a second wireless protocol in response to the application-based selection of the first wireless protocol.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2011Date of Patent: April 15, 2014Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: George Jason Schnellbacher, Louis Eric Wingo, Zhisheng Chen

Patent number: 8655318Abstract: A mobile node and its home system generate synchronized time-based codes at periodic time intervals. Each time-based code is valid for a predetermined time period. To facilitate anonymous operation when roaming, the mobile node identifies itself with a coded identifier instead of a public identifier. The coded identifier used at a given time includes the time-based code that is valid for that given time. To authenticate the mobile node, a serving system receives authentication information from the mobile node and forwards the authentication information to a home system. The authentication information includes the current time-based code and a timestamp. The home system identifies the mobile node from the current time-based code and the timestamp. The home system then uses the authentication information to authenticate the mobile node.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2013Date of Patent: February 18, 2014Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Tong Zhou, George Jason Schnellbacher
