    Abstract: Systems and methods are presented for assisting in providing consistent alignment of a handheld intra-oral imaging device for a series of images. Live image data of the patient is received from the intra-oral image capture device and displayed on the display. A previously stored intra-oral image of the patient is accessed from the non-transitory memory and an alignment mask is generated based on the accessed previously stored intra-oral image. The system determines whether the live image data is aligned with the alignment mask. The system then automatically captures a new intra-oral image of the patient from the live image data in response to determining that the live image data is aligned with the alignment mask and stores the new intra-oral image to the non-transitory memory, displays the new intra-oral image on the display, or both.

The processor is configured to generate a first volumetric rendering according to a first transfer function when the user input actuator is positioned in the first range, and generate the first volumetric rendering according to a second transfer function when the user input actuator is positioned in the third range. The second transfer function is different than the first transfer function. The processor is further configured to generate the first volumetric rendering according to a blending of the first transfer function and the second transfer function when the user input actuator is positioned in the second range, and display the first volumetric rendering on the display.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable medium containing instructions for managing patient image information. One method includes displaying within a graphical user interface a list of dental patients on a portable computing device. The method also includes receiving a selection of a patient from the list from a user input and capturing at least one optical, extraoral photograph of the selected patient. The method further includes associating, on the portable computing device, the at least one optical, extraoral photograph with additional information including information identifying the selected patient, and transmitting the at least one optical, extraoral photograph and the additional information to a computer physically separate from the portable computing device for storage in an electronic record associated with the selected patient.
