  • Patent number: 7464405
Abstract: A method for managing operating systems. A request from an operating system is received in the multi-partitioned data processing system to register for access to hardware in the multi-partitioned data processing system. The request includes a key code for the operating system. A determination is made as to whether the operating system is an authorized operating system using the key code in response to receiving the request. The operating system is registered if the operating system is the authorized operating system. Otherwise, the operating system is terminated.

  • Publication number: 20080267207
Abstract: In an embodiment, new traffic pattern data is received pertaining to a first time period having a first time increment. The traffic pattern data may be received as, or converted to, count information reflecting the probabilities that the user will select particular links services. An incremental table is accessed to determine stale traffic pattern count data, which is the traffic pattern count data in the incremental table over a second time period having the first time increment, wherein the second time period covers the oldest traffic pattern count data in the incremental table. Then a count table is updated to reflect removal of the stale traffic pattern count data, wherein the count table contains global count data at a higher level of granularity than the incremental table. The incremental table and count table are updated to reflect addition of the new traffic pattern data.

  • Publication number: 20080221469
Abstract: A fitting for a fluid-conveying conduit. The fitting includes integrally-formed clamps that can be used to secure the conduit in a locking relationship so that likelihood of leakage and separation of the fitting and the conduit is reduced. In one form, the fitting and conduit can be used as a moisture exchange device. In a more particular form, the conduit wall of the moisture exchange device includes a water-permeable material such that a humidity level in the conduit can be controlled. Since the fitting is formed separately from the end of the conduit to which it is to be attached, fabrication cost and complexity is reduced.

  • Patent number: 7333851
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for predicting and detecting epileptic seizure onsets within a unified multiresolution probabilistic framework, enabling a portion of the device to automatically deliver a progression of multiple therapies, ranging from benign to aggressive as the probabilities of seizure warrant. Based on novel computational intelligence algorithms, a realistic posterior probability function P(ST|x) representing the probability of one or more seizures starting within the next T minutes, given observations x derived from IEEG or other signals, is periodically synthesized for a plurality of prediction time horizons. When coupled with optimally determined thresholds for alarm or therapy activation, probabilities defined in this manner provide anticipatory time-localization of events in a synergistic logarithmic-like array of time resolutions, thus effectively circumventing the performance vs. prediction-horizon tradeoff of single-resolution systems.

  • Publication number: 20070260596
Abstract: A behavioral targeting system determines user profiles from online activity. The system includes a plurality of models that define parameters for determining a user profile score. Event information, which comprises on-line activity of the user, is received at an entity. To generate a user profile score, a model is selected. The model comprises recency, intensity and frequency dimension parameters. The behavioral targeting system generates a user profile score for a target objective, such as brand advertising or direct response advertising. The parameters from the model are applied to generate the user profile score in a category. The behavioral targeting system has application for use in ad serving to on-line users.

  • Patent number: 7224047
Abstract: A semiconductor device package comprises a container including a base and sidewalls. The base is configured to support a semiconductor device chip, and a lead frame extends through at least one of the sidewalls. A portion of the lead frame within the sidewall has at least one aperture penetrating into the lead frame. The sidewall material extends into the aperture, thereby forming a strong interfacial bond that provides a low leakage, sidewall-lead-frame interface. The base has a reentrant feature that is positioned within the thickness of at least one of the sidewalls and engages the at least one sidewall, thereby forming a low leakage base-sidewalls interface. The top surface of the base has a groove that is positioned within the thickness of at least one of the sidewalls and engages the at least one sidewall, thereby enhancing the low leakage base-sidewall interface.

  • Patent number: 7210304
Abstract: In order to provide a modular arrangement, an inverter for an electric traction motor used to drive an automotive vehicle is positioned in proximity with the traction motor. The inverter is located within a compartment adjacent to one end of the electric traction motor and is cooled in a closed system by spraying a liquid coolant directly onto the inverter. The liquid coolant absorbs heat from the inverter and is cooled by a heat exchange arrangement comprising a reservoir with pipes carrying a second coolant from the radiator of the automotive vehicle. In a preferred embodiment, the coolant is collected from the inverter in an annular reservoir that is integral with the compartment containing the inverter. In accordance with one embodiment of the cooling arrangement, heat from the inverter vaporizes the liquid coolant by absorbing heat from the inverter during a phase change from a liquid to a vapor.

  • Patent number: 7146218
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forecasting and controlling neurological abnormalities in humans such as seizures or other brain disturbances. The system is based on a multi-level control strategy. Using as inputs one or more types of physiological measures such as brain electrical, chemical or magnetic activity, heart rate, pupil dilation, eye movement, temperature, chemical concentration of certain substances, a feature set is selected off-line from a pre-programmed feature library contained in a high level controller within a supervisory control architecture. This high level controller stores the feature library within a notebook or external PC. The supervisory control also contains a knowledge base that is continuously updated at discrete steps with the feedback information coming from an implantable device where the selected feature set (feature vector) is implemented.

  • Publication number: 20060182364
Abstract: Sharpening multi-spectral digital images without increasing noise is accomplished by filtering vector values rather than independent scalar values. A low-pass filter is performed on image A to obtain a blurred image B1 with noise and signal suppressed. The resulting blurred image B1 is subtracted from the original image A to produce a high frequency band C1 that contains noise and signal. Vector difference mean filtering is performed on the original image A to produce a filtered image B2 with noise suppressed. The filtered image B2 is subtracted from the original image A to produce a noise band C2 that contains noise with very little signal. The noise band C2 is subtracted from the high frequency band C1 to produce a signal band D that contains the signal. The signal band D is then added to the filtered image B2 to further enhance detail in the noise filtered band.

  • Publication number: 20060174643
Abstract: Power electronics for electric traction motors used to drive automotive vehicles are cooled in a closed system by spraying a dielectric liquid coolant directly onto inverter circuitry. The liquid coolant changes phase and vaporizes as it absorbs heat from power transistors in inverter circuitry comprising the power electronics. The resultant vapor is condensed back to a liquid in a heat exchange arrangement having pipes carrying a second coolant from a radiator used to cool an engine or fuel cell stack in the automotive vehicle. Overspray coolant, which remains liquid, can also be cooled by the heat exchange arrangement. By utilizing the latent heat of evaporation of the dielectric coolant and increasing the rate recycling of the coolant as power output increases, temperature increases in the power electronics are controlled.
