Abstract: Minimally invasive methods and devices for introducing a spinal fixation element into a surgical site in a patient's spinal column are provided. In general, the method involves advancing a spinal fixation element in a first, lengthwise orientation along a pathway extending from a minimally invasive percutaneous incision to a spinal anchor site. As the spinal fixation element approaches the spinal anchor site, the fixation element can be manipulated to extend in a second orientation, which is preferably substantially transverse to the first orientation, to position the fixation element in relation to one or more spinal anchors.

Abstract: A single, multi-effect, energy harvesting and heat managing spun yarn and a manufacturing method thereof are provided. The spun yarn includes a combination of a configurable number of fibers selected from a fiber that absorbs, stores, and releases heat energy through a phase change; fibers that convert heat energy or ultraviolet radiation energy into far infrared radiation (FIR) energy and radiate the FIR energy to other fibers and to one or more body parts of a user wearing a garment created from the spun yarn; a fiber that absorbs moisture and generates heat energy through an exothermic reaction; a fiber that provides heat insulation and repels moisture; a fiber with elasticity; and a fiber that conducts heat and maintains a substantially uniform temperature within the fibers. One or more fibers are positioned in a sheath formed free of a core or with at least one core in the spun yarn.

Abstract: A system for monitoring operational status and detecting faults in a satellite system is disclosed. The system may include a processor and a memory storing instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to select, from a plurality of terminals, a subset of terminals to perform system operation tests. The processor may select the subset of terminals using at least one of a semi-static pre-qualification technique and a dynamic pre-qualification technique. The processor may also perform system operation tests using the selected subset of terminals. The processor may further report results from the system operation test using the selected subset of terminals. In some examples, the processor may also determine potential system operation issues based on the results of the system operation tests, generate an alarm or notification based on the determination of potential system operation issues, and/or abort testing or delay testing to a future testing cycle.

Abstract: A scheduler of a batch job management service determines that a set of resources a client is insufficient to execute one or more jobs. The scheduler prepares a multi-dimensional statistical representation of resource requirements of the jobs, and transmits it to a resource controller. The resource controller uses the multi-dimensional representation and resource usage state information to make resource allocation change decisions.

Abstract: Disclosed methods for transmitting bi-directional optical signal traffic over a single fiber include generating, by transponders at a first location, optical signals having wavelengths within a first wavelength band, converting the generated optical signals to optical signals having wavelengths within a second wavelength band for transmission to a second location, receiving, at the first location from the second location over a single fiber cable between the first and second locations, optical signal traffic comprising optical signals in the first wavelength band, and providing the received optical traffic to the first transponders. The methods also include merging, onto the single fiber cable by a Y-cable at the first location, the optical signal traffic converted for transmission and the optical signal traffic received from the second location.

Abstract: Minimally invasive methods and devices are provided for positioning a spinal fixation element in relation to adjacent spinal anchors. In an exemplary embodiment, the device is a percutaneous access device that can be coupled to a spinal anchor, and the method includes the step of positioning a spinal fixation element through at least one sidewall opening of at least two percutaneous access devices such that the spinal fixation element extends in a lengthwise orientation that is substantially transverse to the longitudinal axis of each percutaneous access device. The spinal fixation element can then be advanced in the lengthwise orientation to seat the spinal fixation element in or adjacent to the receiver heads of at least two adjacent spinal anchors. A fastening element or other closure mechanism can then be applied to each spinal anchor to engage the spinal fixation element within the receiver heads of the adjacent anchors.
