Abstract: Control system for multiple handpieces and associated devices includes a plurality of module control blocks secured in an assembly with a manifold that receives and distributes fluids to the blocks. Blocks contain cartridge valves, each removable through a single face of the control blocks for ease of access. The control blocks are adapted for attachment of auxiliary control devices. Flow control devices in the blocks are controlled by lifting of handpieces from hangers and/or by foot operated controls.

Abstract: The chair includes a movable seat and back that are configured to enhance the patient's comfort by providing lumbar support when the chair is in the recumbent position and by minimizing patient sliding within a moving chair. Chair movement is controlled by a microprocessor-based control system that includes sensing mechanisms for precisely monitoring the chair position. The sensing mechanisms are employed in conjunction with a memory device to permit the user to define a particular position into which the chair will move any time the appropriate switch is closed by the user. The chair control system diagnoses malfunctioning chair components and generates and displays data indicating the particular malfunctioning component.

Abstract: The apparatus secures a dental instrument holder to the movable backrest of a dental chair. The apparatus maintains a preselected orientation of the holder irrespective of movement of the backrest.

Abstract: A female member with an internal fluid shut-off is mounted to a panel and has a bore for receiving a male member. The male member has a nose for insertion into the female portion such that it automatically opens the shut-off. The male member includes an internal flow-rate control valve and a latch for quick-disconnect from the female member.

Abstract: A dental instrument delivery system is provided which includes an articulated retaining arm adjustable in a plurality of directions. The arm is connected to a cable mechanism in the back rest of a dental chair which allows the instruments carried by the arm to remain in a desired position when the back rest is tilted. Also included is a safety release system which prevents damage to the arm and instruments it carries should they accidentally engage a solid object when the chair and/or back rest is raised or lowered. After disengagement of the solid object, the arm automatically returns to its original position.

Abstract: A fail-secure lock apparatus includes a normally pneumatically actuated locking bolt that can be manually operated to withdraw the same in the event of a power failure. The apparatus incorporates a standard key operated lockset connected to operate the pneumatic power drive means or, in the event of a power failure, is connected to rotate a cable reel mechanically to effect movement of the locking bolt to the unlocked position.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a fluid controlled door lock including a lock chassis, a lock bolt movable relative to the chassis, a door handle rotatable relative to the chassis along an axis, a clutch for interconnecting the lock bolt and the door handle, and a fluid control system operable in a direction substantially parallel to the axis and being connected to the chassis for operating the clutch. The fluid control system typically includes a cylinder having a fluid displaceable plunger therein which is adapted to selectively reciprocate in a direction parallel to the axis to operate the clutch.

Abstract: The specification discloses a multiple dental handpiece control system in which lifting one handpiece out of its hanger blocks supply of power and coolants to all other handpieces. Each handpiece has an individual control unit and a blockout unit. When a handpiece is lifted from its hanger, it actuates a valve to cause a piston in its control unit to shift to a condition causing supply of power and coolant fluid to that handpiece and cutting off power to the corresponding pistons in the other control units thereby preventing supply of power and coolant fluids to the other handpiece.

The blocks have supply passages therethrough for the above fluids, and covers for the blocks have diaphragm chambers and passages therealong to control flow of the fluids to outlets in the block. Water coolant control valves are mounted on the covers, and are supplied with control air and water coolant from branch passages in the blocks leading to passages through diaphragms and the covers.

Abstract: A lock mounted on a frame of a door or window by a U-shaped bracket includes an air cylinder attached to the bracket and adapted to be actuated by remote control to drive a dead bolt into a hole in the door or window. An electro-conductive pin carried by the bolt is moved between two contacts carried by the cylinder to light an indicator light at the remote control location, the cylinder being on electrical insulating material.
