  • Patent number: 8521315
Abstract: An apparatus is provided that includes a processor and a memory storing executable instructions that in response to execution by the processor cause the apparatus to at least perform a number of functions. The functions include selecting or receiving selection of a multimedia object including an associated identifier, and generating one or more audio tracks of audio tones representing the identifier. The multimedia object is presentable by a computing apparatus, and the audio track(s) collectively form an album for the multimedia object. The functions also include directing a transfer of the album including the audio track(s) to a media player for subsequent playback of the audio track(s). The computing apparatus is configured to pickup the audio tones of the audio track(s) during the playback, interpret the audio tones to identify the multimedia object from the identifier represented by the audio tones, and access and present the identified multimedia object.

  • Patent number: 8376672
Abstract: A securing device for securing several pipes during storage and transport has pipe securing bodies that in an operating position are positioned above and below each pipe layer. The pipe securing bodies have a top side and a bottom side with oppositely positioned, spaced-apart recesses for pipes. A clamping arrangement is arranged at both end faces of the pipe securing bodies and clamps the pipe securing bodies to a clamped unit. The clamping arrangement has a first hook and a second hook at opposite ends. A lever device is arranged between the first and second hooks and acts on the hooks so as to transfer them with a leverage force from a released position, in which the securing device can be mounted and demounted, into an operating position. A relative spacing of the first and second hooks in the operating position is smaller than in the released position.

  • Publication number: 20130006650
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for facilitating migration from a first device to a second device while interacting with a healthcare application. In this regard, a method may cooperate with the first device to establish a connection therewith based upon a proximity-based identification technique. Such cooperation may occur while the user is interacting with the healthcare application on the first device. The method may also authenticate the user of the first device based upon information, such as authentication credentials, provided by the first device regarding prior synchronization of the user by the first device. The method may also environmentally synchronize with the first device. In this regard, the method may environmentally synchronize with the first device by providing for interaction with the healthcare application via a processor and by providing a common context with that of the first device including display of a common image.

  • Patent number: 8117607
Abstract: Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for implementing a generic kernel extension framework that operate generally to allow one kernel extension to register a function callable by other kernel extensions. A kernel extension can be loaded even if a function it potentially could need is not available. If in fact the running kernel extension does eventually request a function that no other kernel extension has registered to provide, it is failed gracefully with a return error code. The client kernel extension can still function normally, assuming the desired service is non-critical. Example services in the non-critical category may include, for example, advanced error handling functions, statistical functions, reporting functions, and so on, including many others as will occur to those of skill in the art.

  • Patent number: 7857007
Abstract: A two-part protector for a pipe end provided with an external thread or internal thread has a substantially cylindrical thread part of plastic material that covers the thread of the pipe end and further has a sleeve of metal that is also substantially cylindrical and supports the threaded part rearwardly. The threaded part and the sleeve engage one another lockingly by locking projections and locking cutouts. The sleeve, with a terminal edge that is leading when realizing the locking action, is pressed at least near the locking recesses tightly against the threaded part.

  • Patent number: 7844757
Abstract: A method and system for providing multiple input/output paths for accessing storage devices includes providing two or more logical paths between a virtual I/O client partition and a storage device and establishing a physical path between the virtual I/O client partition and the storage device by assigning the storage device to a first logical path of the two or more logical paths. The method further includes reestablishing the physical path by dynamically assigning the storage device to a second logical path of the two or more logical paths in an event of unavailability of the first logical path.

  • Patent number: 7844744
Abstract: When a hypervisor in a computer server receives input/output (I/O) data traffic, the hypervisor sends the I/O data traffic to a security sensor application shared by multiple operating system (OS) partitions. If the security sensor application indicates that the I/O data traffic meets pre-defined security standards in the security sensor application, and the I/O data traffic is addressed to one of the OS partitions in the computer server, the hypervisor sends the I/O data traffic to the applicable OS partition. If the I/O data traffic meets the pre-defined security standards, and the I/O data traffic is not addressed to one of the OS partitions, the hypervisor sends the I/O data traffic to an external destination in a network coupled to the computer server.

  • Patent number: 7743107
Abstract: A system, method, and program product is provided that receives a backup request at a virtual input/output server (VIOS) from a client of the VIOS. The backup request corresponds to a virtual nonvolatile storage that is used by the client. The VIOS retrieves data from the nonvolatile storage device where the virtual nonvolatile storage is stored. The VIOS transmits the retrieved data to a backup server via a computer network, such as the Internet. In one embodiment, a backup software application runs on the VIOS client and a backup proxy software application runs on the VIOS.

  • Publication number: 20090138800
Abstract: An apparatus is provided that includes a processor configured to receive data representative of points on a touch-sensitive surface with which an object comes into contact to initiate and carry out a trace or movement interaction with the surface. In this regard, the trace is defined by a shape formed by the points, and the movement interaction is defined by movement reflected by the points. The processor is configured to determine if the contact is initiated to carry out a trace or movement interaction based on the data. The contact is initiated to carry out a trace if contact of the object is made and the object is held substantially in place for a period of time, the determination being made. The processor is then configured to interpret the data based on the determination to thereby direct interaction with media presented on the corresponding display based on the interpretation.

  • Patent number: 7396413
Abstract: A serpentine tube used in the manufacture of a fluorescent lamp is coated with a reflective or phosphor material. A magnetic material and coating material slurry is placed within one end of a serpentine glass tube. A magnet is placed adjacent the magnetic material and coating material slurry and is moved in a path conforming to the shape of the serpentine tube. The magnet causes the magnetic material and coating material slurry to travel along therewith, coating a portion of the interior surface of the serpentine tube with a reflective, phosphor, or other material. In another embodiment of the invention, abrasive magnetic material is placed within the serpentine lamp for removing a previously coated material resulting in an aperture being formed. The present invention is particularly suited to the manufacture of serpentine fluorescent lamps that are used to illuminate flat panel displays.
