  • Patent number: 5145091
Abstract: A resealable dispensing container assembly for moist products comprises a first container of bag-like form constructed of liquid impervious flexible sheet material with the moist products sealed therein. The bag-like container has a weakened tear line encircling a first predetermined area on a first side thereof to permit selective removal of the predetermined area to define a discharge opening for removing moist products from the interior of the bag-like container. A removable flap member is adhered to the bag-like container in overlying and adhered relationship to the predetermined area such that pulling the flap from the bag-like container tears the first predetermined area therefrom to open the discharge opening. A second container of box-like form and constructed of relatively rigid sheet material encloses the bag-like container. The box-like container has a first wall closely overlying the first predetermined area of the bag-like container.

  • Patent number: 4326634
Abstract: A side loading, top opening reclosable carton, formed from a one piece blank has multiple layer front, rear and side walls, and single layer top and bottom walls, providing efficient placement of multiple layers of material only in the vertical walls, which are subjected to substantial stacking stresses. An optional, and novel, end lock has a male lock tab on a front side flap confined between embossments on two rear side flaps. The lock is secured by adhesion provided by a bottom side flap and bridging the front side flap and the outer rear side flap.

  • Patent number: 4289239
Abstract: A fully assembled carton has a novel end panel construction. End flaps extend from at least one of the bottom, front and rear wall panels. Closure flaps on opposed edges of the top closure panel extend downwardly over portions of the end flaps and terminate at free edges. Closure flap extensions abut the free edges of the closure flap, extend downwardly therefrom over additional portions of the end flaps, and are affixed to adjacent portions of the end flaps.

  • Patent number: 4287704
Abstract: A carton blank may be folded by folder blades supported on an adjustable plate positioned on one side of a chain which carries a clamp by which the carton blank is pulled through the machine. After folding, the blank is glued to complete a flat shell and the shell is then inverted; the clamp is articulated so the shell may be turned in a horizontal plane to align a datum line on the shell to a datum line on a cartoner machine.

  • Patent number: 4285461
Abstract: A container having a tray portion and a cover sealed to the peripheral top edges of the tray. Cut score lines on the inner side of the cover provide a splitting of the paperboard of the cover upon opening to allow the cover to be peeled from the tray to a hinge at the back edge of the tray. Offset double cut score lines may be provided on the upper and lower sides of the cover at the front edge of the tray, which will split upon opening of the cover to yield overlapping locking flaps which can be used to reclose the cover. Flanges may be attached to the lateral side edges of a paperboard tray by cut score hinges, and adhered to the inner side of the cover to provide layer separation of the flanges upon opening rather than layer separation of the cover. Alternatively, double cut score lines can be formed along the lateral sides of the cover in positon to register with lateral side flanges on the tray, which split and provide overlapping locking flaps when the cover is opened.

  • Patent number: 4256256
Abstract: A pouch for use in packaging food or similar granular materials is disclosed which includes at least two different and segregated pouch compartments combined in a single unit. The two pouches may be each formed of different sheet materials so that a differential level of protection may be provided for the different materials in each of the two pouches. The two pouches are simultaneously formed in a folding and sealing machine with the top edges of the two pouches being sealed together to form a single dual compartment package.

  • Patent number: 4252052
Abstract: Method and apparatus for forming a sealed pouch from a paperboard blank having a heat activatable sealing material on a surface thereof. Blanks are received in an initial position above opposed curved forming surfaces and underneath a reciprocating mandrel, with the blank being folded about the mandrel as the mandrel drives the blank in a longitudinal direction between the forming surfaces. Application of heated air activates the heat sealable material, and folding plates fold the longitudinal edges of the blank inwardly to a position where clamping bars can clamp the longitudinal edges together to complete the heat seal. The folding plates and clamping bars withdraw after the heat seal is completed, and the formed pouch is ejected from the mandrel which thereafter reciprocates to its initial position to allow another blank to be inserted above the forming surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4213559
Abstract: A divided display carton is disclosed which is designed to hang suspended from a pair of hooks, pegs, or similar devices, and which is divided into two display compartments. The display partition includes a partition bottom flap designed to be glued into the bottom structure of the carton so that the carton is rigid and durable. The blank for the carton is designed so that successive blanks cut from a continuous piece of stock material can be nested into each other to save stock material.

  • Patent number: 4203355
Abstract: An end construction for a sealed carton comprises a first weakness line disposed between the closure panel end flap and an extension thereof. The first weakness line is severable by a wire over which the panel and its extension are sealed to a carton end, by gluing, in a form, fill, and seal apparatus. Severance of the first weakness line by the wire is effected as the sealed carton is moved through the apparatus. A second weakness line is provided in the closure end flap and extends with angularity to the first weakness line to intersect same. A resulting triangular section of the closure end flap is glued, as is the severed flap extension to the end of the carton, and retains the closure in closed position until such time the second weakness line is torn upon moving the closure to open position. The severed flap extension remains glued to the end of the carton to reinforce same and maintain its assembly.

  • Patent number: 4170325
Abstract: A dispensing carton for relatively flat, rectangular articles comprises elongate side walls of generally rectangular disposition closed by end walls. Dimensions of the side walls are such that the articles in stacked array assume an angular disposition in the carton. An endmost article is presented at and partially protrudes through a dispensing slot provided in a side wall of the carton. Removal of the article through the slot permits the succeeding adjacent article to drop and tilt into position partially protruding through the slot.

  • Patent number: 4170295
Abstract: Cartons, folded from blanks and multi-component products, for example, a rigid container and a flexible pouch, are formed into a package wherein the container is separated from the pouch, without the use of partitions or compartments and wherein the container is positively secured against movement into or out of the carton. In one embodiment, the carton comprises an enclosing band which provides a particularly attractive surface for graphics and conveys a tamperproof feature to the package.

  • Patent number: 4146169
Abstract: A folding paperboard carton including self-positioning, self-locking bottom wall panel structure, and mutually confronting, first side wall panels connected by mutually confronting hinged second side wall panels. The bottom wall panel structure a first bottom wall panel hinged to one of the confronting first side wall panels, and a second bottom wall hinged to the other of the confronting first side wall panels. The first bottom wall panel includes tab means affixed thereto, in the folded mode of the carton, by a line of weakness, and adhered to at least one of the side wall panels excluding the side wall panel to which the second bottom wall panel is hinged.

  • Patent number: 4124160
Abstract: A round tray and a blank for making the tray. The tray has a bottom panel, a plurality of intermediate panels symetrically disposed about the center of the bottom panel, and a plurality of upstanding panels to form the sides of the tray. The upstanding panels may be tilted slightly outward in a conical shape to cause the diameter of the top of the tray to be slightly larger than the diameter of the bottom of the tray. Alternate ones of the upstanding panels are positioned on the inside of the tray, and their adjacent upstanding panels have circumferentially extending glue flaps which overlap the inner panels. The total number of upstanding panels and the total number of intermediate panels are equal, with each upstanding panel being foldable relative to an intermediate panel immediately below it about a first set of fold or score lines. The intermediate panels, in turn, are folded upward from the horizontal about a second set of fold or score lines.
