  • Patent number: 5281206
Abstract: A safety connector is provided for connection to the branch port on a fluid flow line. The connector comprises a tubular body having an opening at its distal end to receive a branch port and a channel in the wall of the tubular body adjacent to the distal end. The channel is adapted to receive the fluid flow line when the branch port is engaged within the tubular body. The connector also comprises a locking rotatable collar located on the distal end of the tubular body. The collar is rotatable from a first position wherein the channel is adapted to receive the fluid flow line when the branch port is engaged within the tubular body, and a second position wherein the collar prevents the removal of the branch port from the tubular body.

  • Patent number: 5199947
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of using a connector for introducing medication into a patient in a safe, convenient way. It comprises a pair of plastic tubular members adapted to be manually pushed together to engage in a male-female relationship, and a locking mechanism that detachably secures the members together. The male member is a piggyback connector with a sealed entry port at its end, and the female member safely houses within it a needle which centrally pierces the seal of the port upon engagement of the members. Preferably, the locking mechanism provides a "click" sound when it locks the members together.

  • Patent number: 5193574
Abstract: Protective structure for a connection site for medical use, including connection sites having at least one valve (3) integral with an attachment panel, and a housing slidably mounted on the panel including two half-shells made of synthetic material. The half-shells are at lengthwise rear walls, provided on lengthwise front walls with elastic closing means and provided with foam padding, having depressions for fitting valves and tubes of the connection site.According to the invention the half-shells are articulated by independent, spaced hinges on thin, lengthwise edges of a rear transverse wall integral with a slide and movably mounted on the panel. The length of the panel is at least equal to a distance that the slide must travel to achieve total clearance of the connection site by the two half-shells in an open position.

  • Patent number: 4931048
Abstract: Disclosed is a medical device used with a syringe or the like that includes a needle protected by a guard. The needle has a connector at one end opposite its tip which enables it to be connected to the syringe. The guard is mounted on the needle and is movable axially along the shaft of the needle between a retracted position enabling the needle to be inserted into a patient and a forward position covering the tip of the needle. The guard is moved forward manually from the retracted to the forward position by the nurse after using the needle to protect the nurse against accidental needle sticks. The forward manner in which the guard is moved by the nurse eliminates the possibility of the nurse being accidentally stuck by the needle when covering the tip with the guard, because the forward movement is along the needle shaft and not inwardly toward the needle tip as with conventional practice.

  • Patent number: 4895562
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for administering medication through the nasal passage of a patient into the patient's stomach. The system includes a connector having a body member with the passageway therein and extending between open ends in the body member. At each of these ends is a series of flanges with tapered edges. One of these ends is inserted into a tube extending through a patient's nose and into the patient's stomach. The other end is connected to either a suction or feeding pump at the appropriate time by a nurse. Within the body member is a port through which medication is introduced. A valve at the port either opens or closes the passageway as required.

  • Patent number: 4782841
Abstract: Disclosed is a vacuum tube type collection device for collecting blood or other body fluids from a patient. The device includes a conventional sealed vacuum tube received in a tube holder having a removable needle assembly connected to the tube holder. The characterizing feature of the device of this invention is that the needle assembly has a guard member which protects the exposed tip of the needle after withdrawal of the needle from the patient's body. This member is movable between a first position where the tip of the needle is exposed and a second position where the guard member covers the tip of the needle and prevents needle sticks. A locking element is mounted along the needle shaft which permanently locks the guard member in the second position upon movement of the guard member into the second position.

  • Patent number: 4432764
Abstract: An antisepticizing device comprises a cap having a formation adapted to fit complementarily with the end fitting of the catheter and formed with a passage having one end communicating with the end fitting and therethrough with the catheter when the end fitting is fitted to the formation. A reservoir in the cap has a movable wall, and the other end of the passage opens into the reservoir which contains a body of an antiseptic liquid. The movable wall of the reservoir can be displaced to force the liquid through the passage into the catheter fitted to the formation. This movable wall can be formed as a piston slidable in the reservoir and having the formation and passage. The end fitting and cap have complementary screwthreads.
