  • Patent number: 4076010
Abstract: A factory-built fireplace having movable spacer members associated therewith for insuring a necessary minimum clearance between portions of an outer surface of the fireplace and combustible structural members used for permanent enclosure thereof. The spacer members are formed from a single sheet or plate of metal and associated with the outer wall of the fireplace so as to be movable between folded and erected positions. When folded, as during packing and shipping, no portion of the spacer members extends an appreciable distance outwardly of the outer fireplace surface, and when erected for installation the edges of the spacer members define the closest position at which combustible framing members may be placed to the outer fireplace surface.

  • Patent number: 4013059
Abstract: A factory-built fireplace for permanent, fully-enclosed installation which takes cooling air from the room in which it is installed, but has no cooling air inlet openings below the front of the hearth. All necessary cooling air enters through openings in the front wall along each side of the combustion chamber into an air passage from which the major portion flows into a space under the hearth floor. After flowing centrally and rearwardly to provide the necessary cooling under the hearth, this air flows upwardly through enclosed spaces at the rear of the combustion chamber to cool this portion of the fireplace. A second portion of the air from the aforementioned air passage may enter enclosed spaces behind the side walls of the combustion chamber to provide the necessary cooling of this portion of the fireplace.

  • Patent number: 3996920
Abstract: A damper construction is provided by a sheet metal plate having fixed guide members extending therefrom for sliding movement upon a pair of parallel guide tracks on each side of the plate. The tracks extend horizontally on each side of the flue opening and slope downwardly toward the upper edge of the open front of the fireplace. The plate is movable between positions fully covering and uncovering the flue opening when the guide members are disposed in the horizontal and downwardly sloping portions, respectively, of the tracks. A handle is attached at one end to the center of the front edge of the plate for limited pivotal movement about two perpendicular axes to allow access to the other end of the handle in either position of the plate, and to allow movement of the handle to a position out of the frontal fireplace opening when the plate is in the uncovering position.
