Abstract: A method for producing wideband visible laser light using planar photonic circuit elements for use in illuminating flat panel displays is disclosed.

Abstract: An optical engine for use with MEMS microdisplay devices is disclosed that comprises a collection stage module, an imaging stage module featuring polarization based imaging prism assemblage, and a polarizing illumination stage module featuring a special light integration tube that removes off-axis overfill loss.

Abstract: A flexible optical engine architecture that provides superior contrast and image performance along with new levels of simplicity is disclosed. The architecture can operate as either a two-imager or a three-imager optical engine. An imaging stage module is disclosed featuring a simple single axis architecture, and a dual output illumination stage module. Two key assemblages comprising an imaging stage provide an entire multi-imager prism imagining stage occupying only a single optical axis. A third assemblage comprises a dual output illumination stage that is ideally matched to the imaging stage and is required to operate the complete engine at highest efficiency. The complete engine architecture is flexible as to color logic and the placement of LCoS imagers.
