  • Patent number: 6272793
Abstract: A height adjuster for a pet door panel to be fitted in a sliding door frame has nesting, or telescoping, spacers atop the pet door panel frame, capped with a top piece engageable with the sliding door frame. In one embodiment, a screw seats in the top piece and passes thought the spacers, the number of which can be selected to adjust the height, and engages a nut in the pet door panel to secure the height adjuster together. In another embodiment, a piston-like top piece is biased away from the pet door panel, and the pet door panel frame includes moveable biased wedges, which positions the top piece relative to the pet door panel frame.

  • Patent number: 5946856
Abstract: A pet door assembly having a frame and a security cover. The security cover has a main body with vertical edges and vertical flanges formed near each vertical edge. The frame includes vertically extending channel members for slidably receiving the vertical flanges of the security cover. Each channel member includes an integrally formed wall portion, a portion of which is located inwardly of the flange when the cover is disposed within the channel. The channel members and the vertical flanges engage in an interlocking fit to prevent the cover from horizontally extruding out of the channel, such as by a force applied substantially normal to the security cover, thus preventing the security cover from dislodging from the frame.

  • Patent number: 5735079
Abstract: A pet door assembly for insertion within a hole formed in a wall having a pair of exterior frames and an inner frame. The exterior frame members mount to opposite sides of the wall and define an opening for allowing passage of a pet. The central inner frame is located between the pair of exterior frames and define an opening generally aligned with the openings in the exterior frames. Each of the exterior frames includes a rear surface having a plurality of fastener sleeves extending outwardly therefrom. At least one of the sleeves has a longitudinally extending slot formed therein. Additionally, the central frame has at least one fastener bracket formed along opposed edges of the inner frame. The bracket includes one or more fastener-receiving apertures having a key portion that is configured to seat within the slot formed within the fastener sleeve. The mating engagement of the fastener sleeve and the key prevents movement of one or both of the exterior frames relative to the inner frame.

The central inner frame is located between the pair of exterior frames and define an opening generally aligned with the openings in the exterior frames. The inner frame includes mounting structure for mounting centrally a door in the inner frame and over the pet passageway. Appropriate assembly structure secures the exterior frames and the central frame together.

  • Patent number: 5551188
Abstract: A security knob assembly for a panel including a pet door, mounted on the panel remotely from the pet door, the security knob assembly including a latch movable between lock and unlock positions, the latch being operated by rotation of a knob after the knob is pushed in axially from a disengaged to an engaged position. The knob has an array of pins that engage an array of holes when the knob is pushed in to operate the latch. The latch may also be operated by a key cylinder, and the mechanism provides a plug to plug up the opening to the mechanism when a key cylinder is absent.

  • Patent number: 5406748
Abstract: A pet door apparatus that allows an animal to enter and exit an enclosure. The pet door includes a frame element defining an opening in the enclosure that has a top frame portion, and a flap element that closes the opening. The flap element has a top portion and extends, in a first orientation, substantially vertically downward from the top portion. The flap top portion includes a horizontally extending pivot element for pivotably moving the flap in response to an applied horizontal force. The flap top portion includes a camming element that vertically moves the top frame portion relative to the frame top portion during pivotal movement of the flap away from the generally vertical position. The opening defined by the frame element has a wider top that tapers to a narrower bottom. The flap is correspondingly tapered to seat within the frame element.

  • Patent number: 5287654
Abstract: A modular pet access door unit for insertion into a hole cut into a door or wall has exterior frames and spacer frames, fastened together by fasteners extending horizontally through brackets in the spacer frames. The spacer frames have tongue and groove surfaces for nesting with each other. Both exterior frames may carry a pet access door. A security cover mounts on posts with annular grooves, and may be moved horizontally into position to cover the pet opening, where sliders in the security cover with keyhold-shaped holes engage the post annular grooves. The pet door is captured in the frame between the frame and a door or flap holder that is secured to the frame by removably fasteners. An automatically adjustable sill is movable by magnetic attraction to the flap bottom, where its position is secured by fasteners.
