  • Publication number: 20220347347
Abstract: A ligament repair device and method is particularly suited to the demands of UCL repair using a scaffold device for surgical implantation across a torn ligament section. The implantable device includes an encapsulation of a therapeutic element for increasing cell proliferation and growth eluted through a controlled release storage element adapted to release the therapeutic agent over time as the cell growth progresses and the scaffold structure degrades or is absorbed in favor of the new cell growth for ligament repair. Reduced recovery time is afforded by the need for only an relatively small incision for implantation. The introduction of a physiologically relevant drug delivery scaffold encourages more rapid cell growth over passive, physical repairs to the connective tissue.

  • Patent number: 10322206
Abstract: The present invention relates, in part, to sutures which promote wound closure and/or healing. In particular, the present invention provides fibrin microthread sutures that mimic the mechanical behavior of a target tissue thereby reducing, for example, scarring, inflammation, and cell death at the ligature site, including monofilament sutures.

  • Publication number: 20110034867
Abstract: Compositions that include microthreads are provided. The compositions can be fully or partially encased in a sleeve along at least a portion of their length and can include biological cells and, optionally, therapeutic agents. Also provided are methods for using the compositions to repair or ameliorate damaged or defective tissue, including cardiovascular tissue (e.g., the myocardium).
