  • Patent number: 11503800
Abstract: An animal feed mechanism with feed agitator assembly includes a feed bin, a funnel-shaped boot attached to a bottom of the feed bin, an agitator system installed in the boot, and a conveying device for conveying feed out of the boot. The agitator system is installed using boot mount brackets attached to end walls of the boot, and holes cut in the sidewalls of the boot after the boot mount brackets are attached. The boot mount brackets each include a lower ledge with a sufficient length to block the free flow of feed out of the holes cut in the sidewalls of the boot due to the angle of repose of the feed. The agitator system includes a motor driven agitator shaft with radial projections that can be inserted through the holes cut in the boot and supported at each end by bearings attached to the boot mount brackets.

  • Patent number: 11209302
Abstract: A system for measuring a level of dry bulk material within a container has at least one vertical cable with a plurality of drag elements supported at spaced locations along a length of the cable. The drag elements each have at least one opening through which the cable extends. The vertical cable can be a single cable extending through the center of the drag elements, or multiple cables extending through spaced apart openings in the drag elements. A load cell is arranged to measure a cumulative weight of the cable and drag elements plus the downward force applied by the dry bulk material to the drag elements to provide a load cell signal proportional to the level of dry bulk material in the container. The drag elements can be provided in various shapes and configurations, including circular disks or cap-shaped elements having substantially flat horizontal upper surfaces.

  • Patent number: 10334818
Abstract: A feeder for dispensing feed to livestock includes a trough and a hopper mounted above the trough. The hopper includes a sidewall, a bottom, a central feed discharge hole through the bottom, and a plurality of gravity flow feed openings arranged around the central feed discharge hole. A deflector is mounted in the hopper above and vertically spaced from the hopper bottom to cover the central feed discharge hole to restrict gravity flow of feed from the hopper through the central feed discharge hole. A sweep member is mounted for rotation about a vertical axis for sweeping feed under the deflector to the central feed discharge hole for discharge into the trough. A closure system is associated with the gravity flow feed openings to automatically close the gravity flow feed openings once animals start moving the sweep member to sweep feed to the central feed discharge hole.

  • Patent number: 10184824
Abstract: A mechanical scale has a weighing basket with a platform having entrance and exit ends. A hanging assembly for supporting the weighing basket includes a break-over beam. A counterweight assembly is connected to the break-over beam and is adjustable to select a threshold scale weight required to trigger a scale-operated feature, such as a spray marking mechanism. The counterweight assembly has a weight selection device bracket pivotally mounted to the frame assembly about a pivot point, and a freely moveable counterweight mass supported by the bracket. The freely moveable counterweight mass is moveable from a first position to a second position when the threshold scale weight is exceeded in the weighing basket, thereby causing an abrupt triggering of the scale-operated feature when the threshold scale weight is exceeded in the weighing basket. The freely moveable counterweight mass is a rolling spherical member enclosed within a hollow chamber inside the bracket.

  • Patent number: 10132673
Abstract: A livestock management system is provided that spray marks animals for sorting or market weight selection. The system includes a pen area partitioned into a feeding area containing at least one feeder and a common watering area containing at least one waterer. A walk-through scale has an inlet open to the watering area and an outlet open to the feeding area. The walk-through scale has a weighing device that determines if the animal is within the specified set weight for marking. The weighing device determines the weight of the animal as the animal center of mass crosses the center of the weighing platform. The system allows spray marking of the animal to be done in a stress free environment that improves overall growth potential.

  • Patent number: 9360360
Abstract: A system for measuring a level of dry bulk material within a container has a columnar device supported vertically within the container. The columnar device has a closed lower end and openings through a sidewall thereof for allowing dry bulk material within the container to flow into and out of the columnar device. A load cell is used to measure a weight of the dry bulk material within the columnar device, which is then correlated to the level of dry bulk solids within the container. The columnar device and the sidewall openings therein can be provided in various shapes and configurations.

  • Patent number: 8584619
Abstract: A livestock feeding station includes an entrance raceway, an exit raceway arranged at an angle relative to the entrance raceway, and a feeder located at an intersection between the entrance and exit raceways. A feed dispensing mechanism selectively dispenses an allotted amount of feed into the feeder. A scale assembly having a platform located in the entrance raceway is used to individually weigh animals within the feeding station. The scale assembly includes a hinged scale platform to allow for easy cleaning, and a cantilevered scale platform extension that extends past an end of the entrance raceway and the feeder to provide a weighing platform assembly that continues to hold an entire animal during normal feeding functions. The scale assembly also includes a basket assembly construction to ensure that an accurate weight measurement can be made even if an animal is leaning against a back or front side of the station.

  • Patent number: 5924922
Abstract: A ceiling ventilation inlet includes a housing having an air inlet aperture, an air outlet aperture, and a baffle supported for linear movement adjacent the air outlet aperture. A spring is positioned such that the baffle moves dependant upon air pressure difference between the confinement space and the external environment. Air entering the housing opens the baffle and enters the livestock confinement building in a 360 degree dispersion pattern. The spring causes the baffle to direct the flow of air into the confinement space at a near constant rate so as to optimize ventilation. The greater the air pressure difference between the confinement space and the external environment the greater the air outlet area becomes. Since the inlet is responsive to the pressure difference and the air outlet area increases or decreases in size, the airflow velocity entering the confinement space may be optimized at a near constant rate.

  • Patent number: 5775988
Abstract: A ventilation inlet includes a housing having two air inlets apertures, a solid wind-deflecting rear wall, and a baffle supported for pivotal movement about a pivot point. A spring or other biasing mechanism is operatively connected to the baffle. Air entering the housing opens the baffle and enters the livestock confinement building. The baffle, positioned responsive to the amount and pressure of air entering the housing, directs the flow of air into the confinement space so as to optimize the speed and direction of the external fresh air entering the confinement space. The design of the ventilation inlet is optimized by calculating the necessary operators required to enable the baffle to properly respond to the incoming air.
