Abstract: Disclosed herein is a power tool (10) comprising a body (12), a rotatable drive shaft (14) having a free end (15) extending from the body (10), and a motor (16) for transmitting torque to the drive shaft (14). A cutting disc (24) having a mounting aperture (26) is engageable on the drive shaft (14). An attachment mechanism is provided for attaching the cutting disc (24) to the drive shaft (14). The attachment mechanism comprises a releasable locking member (30) associated with the drive shaft (14), the locking member (30) being movable between a locked configuration for retaining the cutting disc (24) on the drive shaft (14) and an unlocked configuration for releasing the cutting disc (24) for removal from the drive shaft (14). A biasing member (54) is associated with the locking member (30) for resiliently biasing the locking member toward the locked configuration.

  • Patent number: 7136403
Abstract: Crystal housing apparatus for adjustably positioning cooperating non-linear optical crystals in a laser beam generating system, includes a housing (50) with entry (60) and exit (62) windows for respective laser beams, respective holder means (72, 74, 76) to retain respective crystals within the housing in optical alignment with the windows, and means (86) mounting the respective holder means for individual fine rotational adjustment of the crystals about respective axes. Individual temperature control elements (120) are mounted in association with the respective holder means for controlling the temperature of the respective crystals and means (110, 114) is provided for effecting the fine rotational adjustment of the crystals.

  • Publication number: 20040080756
Abstract: A beamsplitter (16) splits a source beam (14) into a sample path (17) and a reference path (19). The reflected beams recombine to form an interference signal (100). Reference surface (20) is horizontaly suspended on a loudspeaker membrane (30), and moved via a voice coil attached to the membrane (30). this arrangement isolates the reference surface (20) from external vibrations. The surface profile of the sample (18a) is analysed via the interference fringes, which are determined by computing maxima or minima in the statistical variance of digital data representing the interference signal (100). The apparatus may be used for calibrating laser ablation procedures in eye surgery.

  • Patent number: 6634832
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for transporting particulate materials from a lower level to a higher level are disclosed, the method comprising: establishing a flow loop comprising a closeable chamber for receiving batches of the particulate materials, a first flow conduit extending upwardly from the chamber to a delivery level, a second flow conduit extending upwardly from the chamber to a header tank located at a higher level than said delivery level, and valve means at the chamber for selectively isolating the chamber from the first and second flow conduits; filling the flow loop with a pseudoplastic flotation fluid; operating the valve means to isolate the chamber from the first and second flow conduits; introducing a charge of the particulate materials into the chamber and then closing the chamber; operating the valve means to connect the first and second flow conduits to the chamber; and maintaining a supply of fluid in the header tank such that fluid and entrained particulate materials flow from the c

  • Patent number: 6575963
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for scanning material with a laser beam including directing a laser beam (20) through a scanning means, wherein said scanning means includes a first lens (11) and a second lens (12) separated by a distance (16) approximately equal to the focal length of the lenses. The method includes controlling the beam (20) by moving at least one of the lenses in a plane perpendicular to the beam to scan the material. The invention also provides a scanning apparatus for scanning material with a laser beam including laser means for producing a beam of ultraviolet or infra-red light, scanning means for scanning the laser source in a predetermined pattern onto an area of the material, and controlling means for controlling the scanning means, wherein the scanning means includes two lenses, separated by approximately the focal length of one of the lenses, with at least one of the lenses movable perpendicular to the beam to scan the beam.
