Patent number: 11983006Abstract: Movement of an autonomously motile device may be controlled by a user device. The user device may display image data captured by a camera of the autonomously motile device; a user may provide input, such as a touch gesture on a display screen, indicating a command for the autonomously motile device to move to a location indicated by the input. The autonomously motile device determines a coordinate of the input and a time of the touch input; the autonomously motile device then determines a direction and distance of a corresponding movement.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2022Date of Patent: May 14, 2024Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Amy Solenberg, Anil Kumar Katta, Swati S. Patent number: 11912304Abstract: An autonomous mobile device (AMD) moves in a physical space and uses a dock located at a first pose. Sometimes a user may move the dock. To determine whether the dock has moved, the AMD compares first pose data that was previously obtained while at the dock in the first pose to second pose data, such as after a restart or after leaving the dock. If a difference between the first pose and the second pose is greater than a threshold, the dock has moved. The pose data may be determined using a simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithm to process images from cameras on the AMD. Transform data that relates coordinates of the second pose to coordinates of the first pose may be determined. If the dock is used as an origin for a map of the physical space, the transform data may be used to update the map.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2021Date of Patent: February 27, 2024Assignee: AMAZON TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Anton Kalachev, Xiaoxu Liu, Richard W. Patent number: 10827079Abstract: The present solution relates to an improved system and method for reducing traffic flow between the subscriber's device, network, and a charging system. The methods and systems described herein can provide a mediator (or buffer) between the network and the charging system. The mediator can be controlled independently of the charging system and for each client device on the network can run an instance of a quota cache. The charging system can provide the quota cache with a service quota that is allocated out as resource grans to the client device over a given period of time. The mediator can be configured to include a plurality of charging and reporting parameters, which determine how the mediator reports subscriber consumption back to the charging system. The mediator can receive the consumption updates from the client device and aggregate the consumption and report back to the charging system at predefined intervals.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2016Date of Patent: November 3, 2020Assignee: NETCRACKER TECHNOLOGY CORP.Inventors: Habib I Mostafa, Jason Jump, Michael Magnotta, George Robson, Tom Shusta, Debdatta Bhattacharjee, Ray Savarese

Patent number: 8868095Abstract: System and methods of cellular communications network are described herein. In one system, an antenna array is described. The antenna array has a first beamforming arrangement for producing uplink beams and a second beamforming arrangement for producing downlink beams. The first and second beamforming arrangements are different from one another. The wireless communication network communicates with a mobile station by use of the uplink and downlink beamforming arrangements.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2013Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Martin Stevens Smith, Andrew James Urquhart, Julius George Robson, David Damian Nicholas Bevan

Patent number: 8406812Abstract: The invention provides an antenna array suitable for use in a base station in a wireless communications network, the antenna array having a first beamforming arrangement for producing uplink beams and a second beamforming arrangement for producing downlink beams, wherein the first and second beamforming arrangements are different from one another. Preferably the first and second beamforming arrangements feed a common antenna array to produce the uplink and downlink beams. Particularly preferably a plurality of (sin x/x) beams are formed for the uplink, and a plurality of low cusp beams are formed for the downlink. These are advantageously dual polar, in order to achieve diversity gain. In a preferred embodiment, the antenna array is arranged such that three dual polar low cusp beams are formed for the downlink, and six dual polar (sin x/x) beams are formed for the uplink.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2010Date of Patent: March 26, 2013Assignee: Apple, Inc.Inventors: Martin Stevens Smith, Andrew James Urquhart, Julius George Robson, David Damian Nichols Bevan

Patent number: 6304222Abstract: This invention relates to internal antenna arrangements for radio communications handsets. Internal antenna size and shape represents a constraint on handset miniaturisation if good antenna efficiency and bandwidth characteristics are to be maintained. The use of acoustic enhancing volumes of free space about a handset's speaker unit also constrains further miniaturisation. The present invention provides an internal antenna arrangement which facilities further miniaturisation and which combines antenna volume with the acoustic enhancing volume.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1997Date of Patent: October 16, 2001Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventors: Martin Stevens Smith, Ian Paul Llewellyn, Sonya Amos, Julius George Robson, Anthony Dalby, Peter Gwynn
