Patent number: 9473309Abstract: A system for providing security services to a mobile device where the mobile device is in communication with a public network through a first network path that is subject to interference by a third party. The system includes a security server and a private network. The security server is operative to communicate with the mobile device through the private network. The security server is also operative to communicate with the public network through a second network path that is less susceptible to the interference by the third party than is the first network path. The security server communicates with the public network through the second network path to provide security services to the mobile device that are delivered over the private network.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2013Date of Patent: October 18, 2016Assignees: BlackBerry Limited, Certicom Corp.Inventors: Sean Alexander Courtney, Matthew John Campagna, George Ross Staikos, Alexander Truskovsky

Patent number: 9326114Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer programs for transferring a call described. In some aspects, during a voice call, a mobile device detects proximity of an audio appliance. The mobile device determines that the audio appliance is permitted to carry an audio portion of the voice call. The mobile device establishes a bi-directional communication link operable to transfer audio data between the mobile device and the audio appliance. In some instances, the audio data for the voice call is routed between the mobile device and the audio appliance by the bi-directional communication link.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2011Date of Patent: April 26, 2016Assignee: BlackBerry LimitedInventors: Mihal Lazaridis, George Ross Staikos, Mark E. Pecen

Publication number: 20140280698Abstract: Systems, methods, and software can be used to process a link on a device. In some aspects, a link is received on a device. The link can be a link to content stored external to the device. The link can be selected by a user and associated with a first perimeter on the device.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2013Publication date: September 18, 2014Applicants: QNX SOFTWARE SYSTEMS LIMITED, RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITEDInventors: Nils Patrik Lahti, Geordon Thomas Ferguson, George Ross Staikos, Khalid El Mously

Publication number: 20130111330Abstract: A device, system and method are provided for processing structured documents for display. Content of a first viewable portion of the structured document having a fixed position in relation to a viewport is rendered as first rendered image data. Content of a second viewable portion that does not have a fixed position is rendered as second rendered image data. The first and second rendered image data are composited, and a resultant composited image is output for display. In response to a scroll or zoom command applied to the document, and in particular to the second viewable portion, the second rendered image data is updated and composited with the first rendered image data. Compositing can be carried out by a graphics processor separate from a main processor in the electronic device. When no fixed position elements are present in the structured document, the main processor renders the entire content without compositing.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 1, 2011Publication date: May 2, 2013Applicant: RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITEDInventors: George Ross STAIKOS, Karl Arvid NILSSON, Jeremy Alexander NICHOLL, Eli Joshua FIDLER
