  • Patent number: 6128466
Abstract: A wireless receiving subsystem operatively connectable to a broadcast receiver unit having a frequency tuner has an antenna with a feed point, an amplifier located essentially at the feed point, and a transmission line extending from the feed point of the antenna and the amplifier to a signal input of the broadcast receiver unit. The transmission line having a pair of conductors, for example, coaxial conductors. A manually operated switch is disposed in the transmission line for applying a DC voltage across the conductors, while a relay switch is operatively connected to the transmission line for changing a connection state of the amplifier to the transmission line in response to the voltage.

    Filed: March 19, 1999
Date of Patent: October 3, 2000
Assignees: Terk Technologies Corp., NTL Technologies, Inc.
    Inventors: Neil Terk, George Skahill
  • Patent number: 6121940
Abstract: A broadband impedance matching circuit employs active circuits featuring non-Foster reactance behavior, such as negative capacitor circuits and negative inductor circuits, to achieve extremely broadband matching of electrically small antennas. The matching circuit includes at least one non-Foster reactance circuit selected to neutralize the reactance exhibited by the antenna. The circuit further includes a dynamic dispersive impedance transformer circuit which compensates for the frequency dependent radiation resistance presented by the electrically small antenna. The dynamic dispersive impedance transformer is constructed using complementary Foster and non-Foster reactance circuits configured as an impedance transformer.

  • Patent number: 5808584
Abstract: A dipole antenna with folded back ends. Linear conductor elements are fed by a balanced two-wire transmission line which is connected to a balun transformer in turn connectable to a coaxial line. Preferably, the balun transformer is a small device, made of a ferrite donut wound with thin wire and occupying less than one cubic inch. The transformer is preferably located at the feed point and can then be incorporated into the antenna.

  • Patent number: 5528252
Abstract: A television antenna device comprises a pair of electrically conductive dipole arms, a support attached to the dipole arms for supporting the dipole arms, and an electrical circuit operatively connected to each of the dipole arms and mounted to the support for tuning the dipole arms for an optimal impedance match over a plurality of different frequency ranges. A switch is operatively connected to the electrical circuit and is mounted to the support for enabling adjustment of a circuit configuration including the electrical circuit and the dipole arms to selectively tune the dipole arms for an optimal impedance match over the plurality of different frequency ranges. Each of the dipole arms includes a pair of coaxial series tuned circuits for suppressing current flow over electromagnetic frequencies corresponding to higher VHF channels.

  • Patent number: 4479129
Abstract: Directive antenna or radio telescope systems in which a large aperture objective directs incident electromagnetic energy onto a relatively much smaller field element which in turn directs it upon a small directive feed such as a phased array.
