  • Patent number: 5965838
Abstract: A warhead for use in air defense missiles has a flat-sided cross-sectional onfiguration which can be mass focused to direct an entire side onto a target. The warhead may be rotated about the missile longitudinal axis to properly orient a warhead side at the time of detonation.

  • Patent number: 4295290
Abstract: A toy projectile comprising an upper stage having a segmented, tubular rocket-simulating body in which segments or vanes are hinged and formed to provide a rocket vehicle-like configuration in the closed condition and, upon opening, provide radially disposed air foil members which operate in the manner of an autogyro or helicopter to provide gyro rotation of the vehicle for slow descent after it has reached its apogee. The lower stage comprises a tube which is slidably and frictionally receivable within a lower adaptor portion on the upper stage so as to removably mount the lower stage on the upper stage. A solid grain propellant engine, including a thrust charge, delay and separation charge, is mounted in the tube of the lower stage. The lower stage serves to retain the segments or vanes in a closed condition before separation of the upper and lower stages by the separation charge within the lower stage.

  • Patent number: 3952628
Abstract: An apparatus primarily for the manufacture of detonators in which measuret of the internal electrical resistance of a conductive explosive mixture is made during assembly to determine if the supplied firing energy would initiate said detonator and reject the detonator if the resistance is outside a selected range. During assembly, the apparatus also provides for situations in which the housing is insufficiently loaded, overloaded, or misaligned by recycling or rejecting the detonator assembly whenever said assembly is insufficiently loaded, or rejecting said detonator assembly whenever it is misaligned with respect to the loading compressing mechanism or whenever the detonator housing is overloaded with conductive explosive material. The manufacturing apparatus including the electrical control system which comprises a volume acceptance switch, a maximum pressure switch, and an electrical resistance measurement circuit is designed to produce detonators having uniform firing characteristics.

  • Patent number: 3945323
Abstract: An omnidirectional impact and self-destruct fuze for initiation of a gren has a primer which after being initiated ignites a delay column. The delay column melts an eutectic metal arming plug which unlocks a ball detent to permit a striker assembly to be responsive to an impact sensor. If upon impact the inertial force of an impact weight fails to displace an impact spring so that it will release the spring biased striker against a detonator, the burning delay column will subsequently ignite a flash mix and melt a self-destruct nut, thereby releasing a retainer screw and the striker assembly therefrom so that the latter will forcibly hit the detonator causing the grenade to self-destruct.

  • Patent number: 3938825
Abstract: Safety apparatus for a vehicle having a passenger seat, comprising an energy absorbing panel positioned in front of the seat and movably mounted on the vehicle for movement between a first position wherein the panel is spaced from the occupant of the seat and a second position wherein the panel is positioned closely adjacent to the upper torso of the occupant of the seat. A bumper is movably mounted on the vehicle and is connected to the energy absorbing panel so that movement of the bumper inwardly toward the vehicle in response to an impact thereon effects movement of the energy absorbing panel from the first to the second position wherein it restrains forward movement of the occupant of the seat.
