  • Patent number: 5308183
Abstract: A timing sprocket is secured to a camshaft by a locking coupling so that before the coupling is tightened the sprocket will free wheel on the shaft for adjustment purposes and yet be firmly supported against tipping under load, and when tightened the sprocket is locked to the camshaft. The sprocket has a bore fitting on the shaft and a counterbore accommodating a longitudinally split locking ring. A taper between the bore and the counterbore matches a taper on the end of the locking ring. A bolt axially threaded into the camshaft end moves the locking ring from the loose condition where the sprocket can rotate on the shaft to a tight condition where the tapers compress the ring against the shaft and clamp the sprocket for rotation with the camshaft.

  • Patent number: 4995353
Abstract: Modified cams and cam followers are designed to remove lash arising from clearances and compliance in valve train components. The cam followers have a crowned cam contacting surface having a crest, and the cams have a relief formed in a part of the base circle opposite the lift profile. The relief extends across the area opposed to the crest so that the region of the relief, the cam engages the follower in a path offset from and lower than the crest. The cam regions remote from the relief contact the follower on the crest. When the cam moves from the offset contact to the crest contact the valve train will be compressed just enough to remove the compliance prior to lift profile engagement. If any lash is present, it is also removed by the same action.

  • Patent number: 4699094
Abstract: A rocker arm has the valve actuator arm portion thereof provided with a bore and a slot or aperture so as to receive in operative unit assembly therewith a hydraulic lash adjuster that includes a closed end follower having an actuator depending from its closed end which is in the form of a semi-sphere or semi-spheroid which operatively engages into a socket on one side of a load/motion control button, the opposite side of the load/motion control button having a flat surface for abutment against the stem of a valve loosely extending through the slot or aperture so as to be engaged by the load/motion control button.
