  • Patent number: 8782394
Abstract: Centralized authentication systems are provided. A representative system, among others, includes an authentication registration system, a content provider and an internet server. The mobile authentication registration system resides on a content provider, and is operable to receive a single identification number and password from a user independent of a platform the user is associated with, and determine that the identification number and password combination provided by the user is associated with a registered user. The content provider provides personalized content to any of a plurality of registered users on a plurality of platforms. The server receives a connection request from a wireless device, sends an authentication request to the authentication registration system, and provides a personalized content from the content provider to said at least one device. Methods and other systems for multiple access portals are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20130113163
Abstract: A maintenance and emergency run secondary seal mountable to a rotatable shaft is described. The seal includes a housing; a sealing ring having a double-tapered receiving channel located between two exterior surfaces and an interior wear surface; a lantern ring having a double-tapered profile for enabling engagement within the receiving channel of the sealing ring to form an air chamber between the sealing ring and the lantern ring; and an arrangement for directing and controlling pressurized air to the air chamber. The operating positions for the sealing ring are: where the sealing ring is spaced from the shaft, where a portion of the interior wear surface of the sealing ring is closed-in on the shaft to enable an emergency run secondary seal to permit shaft rotation and where the sealing ring is in full contact with the shaft to enable a static seal.

  • Publication number: 20070145103
Abstract: Methods and associated apparatus are disclosed for use in mounting particles on and de-mounting particles from a substrate having an array of tacky and non-tacky areas. The particles can be either electrically conducting or electrically non-conducting. Selection of electrically conducting particles is preferred. The substrate having an array of tacky and non-tacky areas can either be electrically nonconducting (e.g., a dielectric substrate) or electrically-conducting. The methods involve use of first and second electrode plates with the substrate therebetween, the plates having applied thereto a direct current potential, which potential in preferred embodiments is reversed in polarity for a number N of cycles. Methods and articles are disclosed using an electrically conductive surface adjacent the tacky and non-tacky areas to minimize static buildup on the particles and tacky and non-tacky areas.

  • Patent number: 6945833
Abstract: A thrust bearing assembly is described that includes a self-aligning thrust bearing used in fluid thrust assemblies where the thrust may become unevenly distributed, e.g. in a water jet propulsion unit. The thrust bearing is designed to be lubricated by water and to be self-aligning against uneven thrust forces applied to it. The self-alignment is achieved by the design of the bearing, which is in the form of an annular multi-layer plate. The bearing plate comprises a metallic central core layer, an interface layer of marine bearing material on one side of the core and a flexible backing layer on the other side of the core. The backing layer supports the thrust flange against a support face and is formed of a high resilience polymer material capable of being deformed under thrust action sufficiently to align the thrust bearing to correct for uneven thrust.

  • Patent number: 4380199
Abstract: A pedestal wear liner is described for attachment to a pedestal leg of a truck of a railroad vehicle having a journal box with a journal box wear plate facing the pedestal leg. The novel pedestal wear liner includes a unitary metallic support structure generally U-shaped in cross section with a central web portion and a pair of mounting legs for mounting the pedestal wear liners on a pedestal leg. The central web portion has a pair of flat portions adjacent the mounting legs and a central flat portion outwardly offset from the pair of flat portions. A hard elastomeric urethane polymer is bonded to the outer face of the metallic support structure, the elastomeric layer forming an outer flat wear surface across the entire central web of the metallic support and extending uninterrupted over at least part of the mounting legs.

  • Patent number: 4319790
Abstract: A sleeve bearing is described which is useful for carrying the rotating propellor shaft of water craft, as well as for various industrial purposes. The sleeve bearing consists of a single homogeneous solid, hard elastomeric urethane polymer having a Shore D hardness of at least 60, a compressive modulus of elasticity at a 4% compressive strain of at least 50,000 psi and a dry dynamic co-efficient of friction against steel of no more than 0.20. This polymer is machined so as to fit within a cylindrical housing by means of a forced interference fit providing sufficient outward radial force by the outer surface of the sleeve on the housing to retain the bearing in movement-free fit during the operational life of the bearing.

  • Patent number: 4038934
Abstract: An anchor having an elongated hollow body with a plurality of flukes pivoted to the lower end thereof. A stem inside the body has an upper end projecting through the upper end of the body connected to an anchor line. A connecting member couples a slideable plug held within the body to the stem for movement between a first position, where the plug holds the flukes in an extended operative position, and a second position, where the flukes are released from engagement with a surface. The connecting member, of which there are two embodiments, includes a spring tensioned as the stem is raised to an elevated position by a pull on the anchor line, the spring biasing the plug to its second position. A holding element locks the stem in its elevated position whereby a release of the pull on the anchor line will cause the spring to move the plug to its second position to release the anchor flukes. In one embodiment, the flukes may be moved to a storage position parallel to the body.

  • Patent number: RE29816
Abstract: A lock hinge preferably, but not exclusively, for use with a hatch cover structure for a transportation vehicle. The lock hinge comprises a latch bracket and a base bracket. The base bracket is provided with a pivot bar. The latch bracket has a saddle member defining a hinge seat with a mouth opening for receiving at least a portion of the pivot bar therein. The latch bracket further is provided with a latch member having a lever end and a gate end. The latch member is interconnected to the saddle member by a flexible plate whereby the gate end is displaceably positioned adjacent the mouth opening of the hinge seat to retain the pivot bar captive in the hinge seat to interconnect both the latch and base brackets. When secured to a hatch cover, which normally closes the hatch opening in a wall of the vehicle, at least one lock hinge is secured on a respective one of a pair of opposed sides of the cover.
