  • Patent number: 4117945
Abstract: A child-resistant, safety closure for a container having a dispensing end including a threaded neck portion. The closure features an inner sidewall threadably attachable on the container neck portion and an outer sidewall having a flexible and resiliently distensible distal end portion with at least one interlocking member adapted to automatically interlockingly engage the dispensing end of the container when the closure is in either a fully closed or in at least one additional, partially removed position on the container neck portion. Removal of the closure requires manual compression of the outer sidewall at locations straddling the interlocking members, coupled with concurrent retrogressive movement of the closure. Ordinarily, such manual manipulation must be repeated at each interlocking position of the closure. Moreover, as a further safety factor, the interlocking members are inaccessibly and unobservably secluded within the interior confines of the closure when it is interlocked on the container.

  • Patent number: 4093103
Abstract: Containers for storing various pills are provided which have excellent water vapor permeation resistance and which includes child-resistant opening features. The container includes a top and a bottom which are adapted for telescopic positioning with respect to each other in a generally flush-like manner so that edge exposures are kept to a minimum and the top and bottom each include means which are brought into inter-engagement to define a sealed internal chamber for storing tablets, such as aspirin. Wall portions of the top and bottom are configured to preclude opening of the container except by exertion of a compressive force at selective locations. Such selective application of compressive force between the top and the bottom allows the top to be removed from the bottom in a generally pivotal lever-like manner about a hinge connection by the engagement of a fulcrum surface on the bottom with the internal surface of a portion of the top.

  • Patent number: 4076152
Abstract: A fitment-retaining closure adapted to facilitate simultaneous application of the closure and fitment to a container and allow the fitment to remain on the container upon removal of the closure. The closure includes a plurality of fitment-retaining, flexible projections extending downwardly from its top panel for grasping and retaining the fitment. Once the preassembled closure and fitment have been applied to a container, the closure may be removed without disturbing the fitment as the interference fit of the fitment to the container is greater than the frictional fit between the flexible projections on the closure and the fitment.

  • Patent number: 4059198
Abstract: An improved vapor-seal, child-resistant closure and container combination is disclosed herein. The container comprises a cylindrical plastic body which is molded in one piece and has circumferentially spaced, radially extending projections on the upper end thereof that have notches therein. The closure comprises a one-piece plastic body having a top panel and an annular depending skirt with circumferentially spaced lugs extending radially inwardly for engagement with the notches. An annular integral rim or abutment is provided on the annular surface of the top panel of the closure and depends downwardly therefrom. A unique, one-piece, vapor-seal liner is interposed between the annular abutment and the lugs for engagement with the upper end of the container. The one-piece liner comprises a disc member which engages the annular rim of the container and includes a downwardly depending plug member which provides a vapor-tight seal with the inside surface of the container.
