  • Patent number: 5129798
Abstract: In a co-rotational scroll apparatus having two interleaving scroll wraps secured to end plates rotating concurrently about parallel, non-concentric axes to produce a relative orbital motion, a scroll member including an annular biasing chamber formed in one scroll member end plate opposite the scroll wrap and a passage from one of the chambers formed by the scroll wraps for providing fluid to the chamber. The fluid exerts a force upon a pressure plate secured to the opposing scroll end plate and thereby acts to bias the scroll wraps into contact with the opposing scroll end plate. Seals are provided in the biasing chamber of the scroll end plate to ensure contact with the pressure plate of the opposing scroll member.

  • Patent number: 4811757
Abstract: A compressor discharge valve assembly including a valve seat, a valve cage, and an annular ring-type valve operating therebetween. The valve cage includes a recess into which the valve retracts when in an open position, or in an alternative embodiment, the valve cage includes a lip portion for shielding the valve. In either embodiment, a reduction in valve flutter and the noise, known as chatter, which results from valve flutter is realized. The valve in alternative embodiments also includes an annular dished portion oriented toward the valve seat for directing the flow of discharge gas smoothly from the compressor and thereby further reducing valve chatter.

  • Patent number: 4263540
Abstract: A refrigerant compressor of the type driven by a single phase motor capable of operating at a low speed and a high speed. The motor, including four separate windings, a first set of high-speed two-pole auxiliary and main windings, and a second set of low-speed four-pole auxiliary and main windings all wound on the same stator core. Each set of windings is provided with independent line break protectors that enable each set of windings and protector to be optimized without affecting the other. A mandatory low-speed start system is incorporated that insures initial low-speed start even when conditions require high speed operation. Speed switching from one speed to the other is accomplished in the present system while the motor is running without causing interruption of compressor operation.
