  • Patent number: 6155182
Abstract: A waste disposal system for gasification and melting of various waste materials such as solid waste, waste in a solid container, granular waste, and liquid waste, and mixtures thereof. The system includes a reactor vessel which is closed to the atmosphere, and also includes a bottom portion capable of serving as a slag pool. An active feed mechanism eliminates the entry of air from the atmosphere into the vessel and also blocks the expulsion of by product gases into the atmosphere. The feed mechanism includes mechanisms to feed solid waste, waste in a solid container, granular waste and liquid waste into the reactor vessel. A plasma arc torch is located for plasma arc activity within said reactor vessel to produce a high temperature processing zone to gasify or melt solid waste, waste in a solid container, granular waste, and liquid waste and mixtures thereof as such waste is actively fed into the reactor vessel.

  • Patent number: 6119493
Abstract: An improved tamper resistant combination lock with large planar easy to shift blocking slides with spring fingers that fool the lock picker into believing all three positions of the slides are blocking positions, rather than passing positions. The slides block or pass spaced spheroidal obstructions on a plunger. A small bifurcated clip prevents the complete removal of the plunger when all blocking slides are in the pass position. In one embodiment the lock is a padlock-type with a "U" shaped shackle that lies in a common plane with the slides to reduce lock size.

  • Patent number: 5899098
Abstract: A tamper resistant combination lock including a housing having a through bore receiving a locking plunger with a plurality of integral-spaced obstructions thereon, the housing having a plurality of transverse slots each receiving one of two identical blocking slides that snap between three distinct positions, one passing the obstructions and plunger, and two blocking the obstructions and plunger. Lock picking is minimized by flexible fingers in the slides that engage the plunger obstructions when the slides are in the plunger passing position to simulate the slide blocking positions as the lock picker tugs the plunger.

  • Patent number: 5829179
Abstract: A tamper resistant trigger blocking device for weapons having a trigger guard featuring a pair of blocking members that cover the opposite sides of the trigger guard preventing entry into the trigger area. The two blocking members are clamped together by a pair of oppositely disposed combination locks each of which has a plunger in the other blocking member that is grasped by the combination locks. Movement of the blocking members in the plane of the trigger guard is minimized by a plurality of indexible rods in one of the blocking members that are engageable with both sides of the trigger guard to prevent that movement. The user adjusts the positions of these rods to fit the user's trigger guard size and shape.

  • Patent number: 5280757
Abstract: A plasma arc torch is used as an independent heat source in an enclosed reactor vessel to gasify municipal solid waste and produce a medium quality gas and an inert monolithic slag having substantially lower toxic element leachability. The gas has lower levels of metals and semi-volatile organic compounds, particularly dioxins and furans. Other materials may also be gasified, for example, coal, wood and peat.

  • Patent number: 5222448
Abstract: Spent potliner from aluminum reduction cells includes carbon, inorganic brick and refractory material, and fluoride, sulfur, and cyanide compounds, and is considered hazardous. It is treated by introducing it into a vessel, and exposing it to the heat of a plasma torch at a temperature of at least 1000.degree. C. As a result, carbon is gasified and converted to combustible carbon monoxide or hydrocarbons, or to carbon dioxide; inorganic material is melted form slag; fluoride compounds are melted, vaporized, or reduced to gaseous HF; cyanide compounds are destroyed; and all other materials, including sulfur compounds, are either melted or gasified. As a result, the spent potliner is rendered non-hazardous, and the quantity of remaining slag has both its solid volume and mass substantially reduced by a factor of at least 1.5:1 in mass and at least 3:1 in volume relative to the input spent potliner.

  • Patent number: 4288875
Abstract: A tuner for a television receiver includes a voltage controlled local oscillator for tuning VHF channels comprising a transistor arranged in a common base amplifier configuration and a parallel tuned circuit including a varactor diode responsive to a tuning voltage and a first inductor configuration for the low VHF band and a second inductor configuration for the high VHF band connected between the collector and emitter electrodes of the transistor. A second varactor diode also responsive to the tuning voltage is connected between the emitter and base electrodes of the transistor to expand the range of the local oscillator in its high VHF configuration to permit tuning of channels in a midband cable band between the low and high VHF bands without the need for a third inductor configuration.
