  • Patent number: 5908044
Abstract: An apparatus for injecting sealant into the packing chamber of a valve requiring no venting of pressure within the valve. The apparatus which includes an interior valve is attached to the valve body by drilling and tapping a connection or by friction welding. A high pressure packing gland is attached to the apparatus and a drill bit is passed through the combination to complete an opening into the packing chamber. The drill bit is withdrawn past the interior valve, which is closed and then out of the combination. The packing gland is removed and a sealant injection device attached. The interior valve is opened and sealant injected into the packing chamber. The valve is closed, a completion plug installed into the end of the fitting, and a completion cap with a sealing ring is installed over the entire valve and fitting, thereby forming multiple redundant seals.

  • Patent number: 4709729
Abstract: A pipe weld repair structure adapted to seal leaks or cracks at a weld circumferentially disposed in a pipe. Includes at least two pipe clamp segments disposed around the pipe and connected together to form complete clamp. Each clamp segment defines two inner surfaces adapted to be in contact with outer surface of pipe when clamps are connected together around pipe. Each clamp segment defines an inner grooved recess disposed between inner surfaces and adapted to enclose a weld circumferentially disposed around pipe when clamps are connected together around pipe. Clamp segments define an internal diameter when clamp segments are connected to form complete clamp. Internal diameter is conventional fit around pipe while clamp segments are at sufficiently high temperature to cause thermal expansion. Internal diameter is a shrink fit around the surfaces of pipe after clamp segments are connected together while at sufficiently high temperature and subsequently allowed to cool to same temperature as pipe.

  • Patent number: 4568091
Abstract: A sealing member including a seal retainer sleeve provided in segments and two spaced apart grooves defined all around the inner wall of the sleeve. Sleeve is adapted to be fitted around outside of a cylindrical surface on each side of an opening. An elastomeric fluid pressure seal segment is mounted within each groove in the sleeve to provide a fluid tight seal within the spaced confined between the grooves. The bottom of each of the grooves is dovetailed to retain corresponding mounting beads of the seal. Each segment of the seal, as mounted within the grooves, is shaped with an outside diameter surface merging into the mounting beads. The high pressure bead of the mounting beads merges into the side of a groove extending axially into the segment. The other side of the groove merges into a flexible lip which is responsive to pressure applied within the cylindrical space. The lip extends into an inside diameter surface.

  • Patent number: 4529167
Abstract: A housing having a longitudinal aperature therethrough, and an exterior surface adapted to be securable to a container. A stem is longitudinally movable within the housing and is cooperatively conformed with the housing such that an annulus exists between a portion of the housing and the stem. The stem includes a plurality of ports allowing fluid communication between the annulus and a longitudinal cavity extending from the top end of the stem. A sealing instrumentality if included proximate a bottom end of the valve to prevent the flow of fluid into the valve annulus when the valve is in a first "closed" position. The stem is adapted to be moved longitudinally within the housing to a second, "open", position wherein the sealing instrumentality is released and fluid may enter the annulus and pass through the ports to exit the valve through the stem cavity.

  • Patent number: 4202377
Abstract: An apparatus for plugging a pipeline through a side opening and arranged such that the sealing portion may be removed and a rotary brush substituted to effect initial cleaning of pipeline should that be desired. The apparatus includes a bell-type housing which is arranged for mounting over the side opening in a pipeline to form a fluid tight chamber therewith so that the cleaning and plugging operation can be carried out while fluid pressure is present in the pipeline. The apparatus includes a drive stem which extends into the chamber through a ball and socket coupling provided in the upper part of the housing which permits articulation of the drive stem. The drive stem has supported on the lower end thereof a plug assembly which is adapted for insertion into the pipeline for effecting the seal. The plug assembly includes an annular cup-shaped seal having an annular lip which is sized for easy insertion into the pipeline at a point axially adjacent to the side opening.

  • Patent number: 4171142
Abstract: A leak repair clamp for pipe and pipe flanges includes a frame having a plurality of segments positionable in end-to-end relation around the pipe. Each segment includes spaced parallel annular lips flaring from its inner periphery with each lip being an integral part of the segment and having a bent tip portion extending toward the matching oppositely positioned tip portion of the opposite lip. A connecting means is used to connect the segments together in end-to-end relation, the lips extending from the segments to thus form an annular recess around the pipe when the segments are connected. An access means is provided in the frame to permit passage of a liquid sealant into the recess and the lips direct flow of the sealant into direct contact with the pipe to form a self-energizing seal between the lips and pipe.

  • Patent number: 4144909
Abstract: In one exemplar embodiment, a combination closure conduit and closure plug are provided for closing a side opening into a pipeline. The closure stub or conduit is attached to the pipeline around the side opening and has an interior annular shoulder. A closure plug adapted for insertion into the conduit has a projecting peripheral shoulder and provides a first sealing means. A peripheral sealing means disposed on the plug ahead of the peripheral shoulder provides a second means of sealing the plug to the conduit. Locking screws engage a peripheral surface on the top of the plug to lock the plug in place. A by-pass valve is carried by the plug to allow fluid communication through the plug during insertion of the plug.
