  • Patent number: 11707351
Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for protecting the cerebrovascular circulation from embolic debris released during an index procedure. An embolic protection filter is delivered in a reduced profile configuration via an access catheter, and positioned in the aorta spanning the ostia to the three great vessels leading to the cerebral circulation. An index procedure catheter is thereafter advanced through the same access catheter to conduct the index procedure. The index procedure may be a transcatheter aortic valve replacement. A pore distribution in the filter blocks passage of debris greater than a predetermined threshold, minimizes total cumulative volume of debris passing through the filter and minimizes blood pressure drop across the filter.

  • Publication number: 20230070800
Abstract: An intravascular filter for blocking passage of embolic debris into the cerebral and aortic circulation upon removal of the cross clamp from the aorta during open heart surgery. The filter comprises a self expandable tubular wire frame, having a proximal end, a distal end and a lumen defined within a tubular sidewall. A tubular porous membrane is carried by the sidewall and extends across the proximal or distal end, so that debris entering the other end can be captured within the lumen, the membrane having a distribution of pore sizes. A control wire extends proximally from the filter. In use, the aorta may be cross clamped over the control wire or over the filter. Following removal of the cross clamp, blood is allowed to perfuse through the membrane in the direction of the descending aorta while retaining embolic debris therein for subsequent removal, and the filter and debris may be proximally retracted using the control wire.

  • Patent number: 9358014
Abstract: A liquid embolic delivery system is provided for trapping an injected liquid embolic composition to prevent the liquid embolic from solidifying or otherwise passing outside of an embolization area. The delivery system includes a catheter for delivery of a liquid embolic composition and a containment member positioned at a distal end of the catheter which is shaped to trap the liquid embolic composition delivered through the lumen of the catheter. The containment member is formed as a brush, nest, sponge, swab, flexible sack, or other shape into and around which the liquid embolic composition is injected. The liquid embolic composition is trapped or meshes with the containment member during solidification containing the liquid embolic and preventing the embolic composition from passing into the blood stream.
