Publication number: 20080310757Abstract: A system and related method for automatically aligning a plurality of 2D images of a scene to a first 3D model of the scene. The method includes providing a plurality of 2D images of the scene, generating a second 3D model of the scene based on the plurality of 2D images, generating a transformation between the second 3D model and the first 3D model based on a comparison of at least one of the plurality of 2D images to the first 3D model, and using the transformation to automatically align the plurality of 2D images to the first 3D model.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 11, 2008Publication date: December 18, 2008Inventors: George Wolberg, Lingyun Liu, Ioannis Stamos, Gene Yu, Siavash Zokai

Patent number: 7418156Abstract: An efficient way to perform rendering operations in an image processing environment includes a warping engine having a warping module and a domain of definition (DOD) module. When an object is warped, a new DOD for the image is determined by the warping engine by comparing the location of certain pixels in the warped image with their corresponding locations in the original image. By maintaining a DOD for the warped images, only that portion of the DOD that intersects with a region of interest is computed, thus resulting in optimized performance.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2004Date of Patent: August 26, 2008Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Dan Candela, Mitch Middler, Ron Brinkmann, George Wolberg

Patent number: 6935058Abstract: An apparatus for turning bound pages, the apparatus having a frame; a book support assembly coupled to the frame; at least one pickup arm coupled to the frame; a motor assembly coupled to the frame; and a conveyor assembly coupled to the frame. The conveyor assembly has a belt; a plurality of fingers coupled to the belt; and at least one actuator coupled to the belt. A subset of the plurality of fingers hold the book in an open condition. Upon rotation of the belt by the motor assembly, the at least one actuator causes the at least one pickup arm to lift a portion of a page while a subset of the plurality of fingers hold the bound pages in an open condition and turn the lifted page.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2003Date of Patent: August 30, 2005Assignee: PageFlip, Inc.Inventors: Ali Sadegh, George Wolberg

Patent number: 5537226Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus for restoring or correcting digital images scanned in the presence of mechanical vibration, thereby improving the quality of the output image. In a document scanner, a linear sensor moving relative to a document placed upon a platen is scanned in a manner wherein fluctuations in the nominal scanning velocity are observed. Recognizing that the output of a single photosensor in the linear sensor array is proportional to the integrated irradiance received by the sensor as it scans through an exposure region, when vibratory motion of the sensor array is considered, the actual size of the exposure region is time-varying. The fluctuations or vibrations introduce artifacts such as brightness fluctuation and geometric warping which are eliminated or significantly reduced in accordance with the method of the present invention.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1994Date of Patent: July 16, 1996Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: George Wolberg, Robert P.
