  • Patent number: 6665291
Abstract: In a communications system comprising a public or other network (170), a wireless network (7), and an Internet Protocol based network (IP network) (100) configured as a transport mechanism between the public or other network (170) through a public network interface (160) and the wireless network (7) through a base station interface (140), a method of controlling signal traffic over multiple IP subnets, the method comprising the steps of gathering traffic data associated with the multiple IP subnets, and analyzing the traffic data to determine which of the multiple IP subnets provides the most appropriate connection for transmitting the data stream between the wireless network and the public or other network for achieving a desired amount of traffic distribution over the multiple IP subnets.

  • Patent number: 6560442
Abstract: A method for locating concentration of mobile radio (MR) traffic in a coverage area 50 by identifying the locations where MRs (12) in the coverage area 50 are actively making calls. Signal strength measurements at test sites (40) of interest within the coverage area (50) are made and compared with signal strength measurements taken from operating MRs (12). A plot of matches can be kept and used to traffic the locations within the coverage area (50) revealing where concentrations in the coverage area (50) exist.

  • Publication number: 20020155834
Abstract: Subscribers (103) are migrated from a first network (101) to a second network (115). Once the second network (115) is ready for traffic, connections from other networks (113) to the first network (101) are effectively transferred to the gateway mobile switching center (GMSC) (123) of the second network (115). All calls for the first network (101) and the second network (115) are directed to the GMSC (123) of the second network, which queries the home location register (HLR) (125) of the second network (115) for routing information. When a subscriber (117) is provisioned and activated at this HLR (125), the call is routed within the second network (115). When a subscriber (103) is not provisioned or activated at this HLR (125), the call is routed to the first network (101).

  • Patent number: 6081717
Abstract: A method for verifying coverage area by measuring the signal strength throughout the area, estimating the radius of the area based on the measurements, measuring the signal strength at the estimated radial distance, and determining if there is a sufficient proportion of signals at the estimated radial distance with a strength which exceeds a threshold.
