  • Patent number: 8439880
Abstract: A flow control system includes a drip chamber having lower and upper wall sections and a collapsible wall extending between the lower and upper wall sections, a downwardly depending valve seat attached to the lower wall section, and a valve member disposed in the drip chamber, attached to the upper wall section and having a valve surface engageable with the valve seat. The system also includes a driver rotatably engaged to the lower and upper wall sections. Upon rotation of the driver in a first direction, the collapsible wall of the drip chamber moves between a collapsed condition in which the valve seat is sealingly engaged with the valve surface and an extended condition in which the valve seat is sufficiently spaced from the valve surface to form a flow passageway between the valve surface and the valve seat and permit flow through the opening of the drip chamber.

  • Publication number: 20090270832
Abstract: A needleless access port is assembled from parts sealed to a flexible container, such as a container for intravenous infusion, parenteral nutrition or transfusion. The port includes a lower housing for sealing to the container, the lower housing having an upright tower for mounting an upper housing. The upper housing has at least one connector or valve and a sleeve for mounting to the tower. The sleeve includes connectors so the upper housing can be mounted in a first, upper resting position, and a second lower, active position, for adding liquid to the container or for removing liquid from the container. Even after assembly to a container, the upper housing may be removed and the lower housing may be used instead with a standard IV spike set.

Abstract: A medicant reconstitution system is provided which has a generally flexible fluid bag with associated administration and reconstitution ports. The reconstitution port is adapted for receiving a medicant container and the administration port is for administering a medical fluid to a patient. According to one aspect of the present invention, the administration and reconstitution ports are integrated in a relatively rigid port structure. According to another aspect of the present invention, the reconstitution port receives a piercing member which is rotatable to a selected position to establish fluid flow. According to yet another aspect of the present invention, one of the reconstitution port and the piercing member includes a cutting edge, while the other includes a frangible member. Contact between the cutting edge and the frangible member opens the frangible member to establish fluid flow.

  • Publication number: 20080108954
Abstract: Flow controllers are provided for interconnecting a fluid source to two separate collection zones. The flow controllers include a body having a fluid inlet communicating with the source and two fluid outlets, each communicating with one of the collection zones. An actuator member received within a cavity of the body includes first and second flow paths. In a first position, the first flow path is aligned with the fluid inlet of the body to allow fluid communication with one of the fluid outlets and the associated collection zone. The actuator member is non-rotationally moved to a second position within the cavity to align the second flow path with the fluid inlet of the body, thereby halting flow through the first flow path and allowing fluid communication with the other collection zone. An optional safety feature prevents movement of the actuator member from the second position to the first position.
