Publication number: 20240074859Abstract: An annuloplasty implant is disclosed comprising first and second support members having a coiled configuration in which the first and second support members are arranged as a coil, with two free ends, around a central axis, wherein, in said coiled configuration, said two free ends are displaced from each other with a peripheral off-set distance extending in a coil plane, said coil plane being substantially parallel to an annular periphery of said coil and perpendicular to said central axis, wherein the first and second support members and the respective free ends are configured to be arranged on opposite sides of native heart valve leaflets of a heart valve. A method of implanting an annuloplasty implant at a target site in the heart is also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2023Publication date: March 7, 2024Inventors: Hans-Reinhard ZERKOWSKI, Olli KERANEN, Ger O'CARROL, Mark PUGH, Jake O'REGAN, Stuart DEANE

Patent number: 11865275Abstract: An introducer sheath for providing access in a patient's body comprises a tubular body with a distal portion and a proximal portion, the proximal portion being configured to be inserted into the patient's body to allow a medical device to be inserted through the introducer sheath into the patient's body. In order for the introducer sheath to be removable from the patient, it can be separated along its length in a longitudinal direction. The introducer sheath further comprises at least a first handle which is pivotable about a fulcrum. The first handle has a first end portion and a free second end portion so as to form a lever, such that pivoting the handle about the fulcrum causes a contacting portion of the handle to act on a respective counter portion that is operatively connected to the distal portion of the tubular body. This creates a breaking force that causes the distal portion of the tubular body to break.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2020Date of Patent: January 9, 2024Assignee: ABIOMED EUROPE GMBHInventors: Ger O'Carrol, Thorsten Siess, Walid Aboulhosn

Publication number: 20230381480Abstract: A sheath for producing a fully sealed access to the interior of a vessel of an animal or human body comprises a base sheath having a tubular body defining a pass-through channel. The base sheath is adapted to be inserted into the vessel through a vessel aperture. The sheath further comprises an expansion device which is adapted to cooperate with the base sheath such that the outer diameter of the sheath increases in the region of the vessel aperture with the sheath in a stationary position in the vessel and upon actuation of the expansion device.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 3, 2023Publication date: November 30, 2023Applicant: Abiomed Europe GmbHInventors: Thorsten Siess, Christoph Nix, Frank Kirchhoff, Ger O'Carrol

Patent number: 10709875Abstract: An introducer sheath (10) comprises a tubular body (11) with a distal portion (12) and a proximal portion (13), the proximal portion (13) being configured to be inserted into the patient's body. Introducer sheath can be separated along its length in a longitudinal direction. The introducer sheath (10) further comprises at least a first handle (15) which is pivotable about a fulcrum (21). The first handle (15) has a first end portion (151) and a free second end portion (152) so as to form a lever, such that pivoting the handle (15) about the fulcrum (21) causes a contacting portion (23) of the handle to act on a respective counter portion (24) that is operatively connected to the distal portion (12) of the tubular body (11). This creates a breaking force that causes the distal portion (12) of the tubular body (11) to break.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 2016Date of Patent: July 14, 2020Assignee: ABIOMED EUROPE GMBHInventors: Ger O'Carrol, Thorsten Siess, Walid Aboulhosn
