Patent number: 8336113Abstract: An improved welding helmet encloses a welders head and a portion of the neck. The helmet contains a fan, filter and thermoelectric cooling module to provide clean, cool air that reduces welding fume levels below suggested maximums and provides cool air to the welders head and neck area making their body feel cooler. Air exhausted from the helmet is captured and further utilized to significantly improve system efficiency by causing it to be in contact with the hot side heat sink that is a part of the thermoelectric cooling module assembly. The use of an external power source, including readily available welding power, is suggested as one option for supplying system power. An optional configuration is presented where an external container strapped to the welders body is employed containing the fan, air filter and thermoelectric cooling module and is connected to the helmet by cool air intake and exhaust air hoses.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 2010Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Inventor: Gerald Daniel Uttrachi

Patent number: 8104094Abstract: This invention defines a welding helmet that encloses a welders head on five sides and with an optional skirt covers their neck. The helmet contains a fan, filter and cooling module to provide clean cool air that reduces welding fume levels in the breathing zone below suggested maximums. By providing cool air to the welders head and neck area their whole body will feel cooler. It suggests the use of an external power source to provide the energy required to have a fan of sufficient capacity to draw air thorough a quality filter so potentially hazardous constituents of welding fumes are captured. This externally supplied power allows the required cooling capacity thermal electric cooling modules to be used to significantly lower the ambient air temperature. This helmet allows the welding operator to have sufficient cooling to improve their overall work environment for one of the most objectionable welding issues, excess heat.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2009Date of Patent: January 31, 2012Inventor: Gerald Daniel Uttrachi

Patent number: 7462799Abstract: Welding shielding gas is often wasted because the welding operator sets flow rates excessively high. The flow rate limiting apparatus described can be added externally to a needle valve flow control adjustment knob in a flow control device. It is connected such that it limits the degree of allowable movement of the flow control knob. It can be locked with a key type tool to prevent changes. Even when the maximum flow is set and locked, the flow can still be lowered by the operator from the maximum allowable flow setting. This ability allows the operator to adjust flow for differing needs and may further decrease gas usage. Eliminating the ability to set excessively high flow rates also prevents the creation of turbulent flow exiting the shielding gas nozzle or cup thereby eliminating air entrainment into the shielding gas stream improving weld quality.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2006Date of Patent: December 9, 2008Inventor: Gerald Daniel Uttrachi
