  • Patent number: 5537885
Abstract: A gear shift mechanism particularly suited for a drag racing car is disclosed that causes the gear shifts of a transmission to be sequenced upon the attainment of selectable predetermined conditions so that the drag racing car obtains its desired acceleration in an optimum manner. The gear shift mechanism comprises electrically or pneumatically operated cylinders that move the gear shift lever upon sensing optimum conditions related to the acceleration performance of the drag racing car. The cylinders are positioned on opposite sides of the gear shift lever and provide counter-forces during shifting through at least one gear and yet allow the gear shifting to preferably be accomplished in a single direction. The counter-acting cylinders eliminate overshooting of the gear shift lever during movement of the lever arm. Alternatively, manual input instead of predetermined conditions may be substituted into the gear shift mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4856225
Abstract: A gopher trap has a wire base frame with elongate limbs connected by a cross member at a distal end of the trap. Wire jaws are pivotly mounted on the respective limbs adjacent the distal end. The limbs are connected at the proximal end of the trap by a transverse pin which carries a pivotal jaw actuator plate and a pivotal trigger pan. The trigger pan is attached to an elongate trigger rod which extends under the length of the actuator plate to the distal end of the trap. The actuator plate embraces the respective jaws for opening and closing same and is spring urged away from the base frame to bias the jaws into closed position. The trap may be set by depressing the actuator plate and allowing the trigger pan to pivot forwardly so that the distal end of the trigger rod can engage under the cross member at the distal end of the base frame. The trap is sprung when a rodent pushes the trigger pan rearwardly and disengages the trigger rod from under the cross member.

  • Patent number: 4751790
Abstract: A snare-type animal trap is characterized by a spring noose-actuating spring arm which pivots well in excess of 90.degree. from its set to its sprung positions. The spring arm is bent slightly to add to its effective sprung position angle. In a leg snare embodiment, a noose cable guide at the distal end of the spring arm includes a narrow surface from which two upwardly projecting bent guide members extend to define a slot for slidably guiding the cable. The cable is anchored at one end and has a noose formed at its free end by means of a slide member having two through-holes slidably surrounding the cable. A washer precludes passage of the free end of the cable through the first hole which is aligned with a channel defined between two fingers formed at the bifurcated end of the slide member. The fingers are curled back toward the first hole so that the cable can slidably pass through the first hole, the channel, and then through the second hole to form the noose.

  • Patent number: 4557068
Abstract: A padded leghold trap of the pivoting jaw type includes recessed portions of the jaws in which respective pads are disposed. The pads each have concave facing surfaces with an inner edge that barely touches the inner edge of the other pad in the sprung position of the jaws, leaving the remainder of the concave facing surfaces mutually spaced. A trapped animal is held between the padded jaws which spring closed and traps the animal's leg without breaking the leg or causing edema. Attempts by the trapped animal to pull its trapped limb from between the jaws causes the radially inner pad edges to roll over toward the limb and thereby increase the retention forces. A retainer for the pad is disposed over an access slot in the pad, which access slot is provided to deploy the pad on the jaw. The retainer includes a bent lip which deforms the pad toward the jaw to prevent the pad from being pulled off the jaw by a trapped animal.
