  • Patent number: 11819221
Abstract: A cutting accessory for use with a powered surgical handpiece includes an elongated shaft, a tissue working member, and a proximal section. The elongated shaft has proximal and distal ends, and a longitudinal axis. The working member is attached to the distal end of the shaft. The proximal section extends proximally from the distal end and includes a plurality of faces extending inwardly from an outer surface of the shaft. Each face has at least one shallow portion and is shaped to receive a clamping member. At least two of the faces are arranged linearly, extending along the shaft proximal section. A flat extends distally forward of the distalmost face, and is located a distance from the shaft longitudinal axis greater than the distance the shallow portions are located from the longitudinal axis and less than the distance the outer surface of the shaft is from the longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 10736642
Abstract: A motorized surgical handpiece with a chuck. Internal to the chuck are clamping members that releasably hold clamp the shaft of a cutting accessory to a drive shaft so the cutting accessory rotates upon the actuation of the motor. The chuck includes a collar with an opening through which the cutting accessory is inserted. The opening is non-circular in shape. When an accessory shaft with a cross sectional shape that matches the shape of the opening is inserted in the opening, the accessory shaft is appropriate aligned with the chuck clamping members.

  • Publication number: 20050189788
Abstract: A method and apparatus for absorbing energy during a frontal collision of a vehicle, through the use of a front frame structure having main frame rails that include several deformable and non-deformable sections which are connected by selectively crushable junctures that are configured to predispose one or more of the junctures and sections to pivot selectively outward, rearward and upward, in a predetermined manner, during the collision. The front frame structure also includes an engine cradle, attached below the main frame rails, and having a pair of side rails that include forward and rear crushable junctures joined by non-deformable intermediate sections, with the crushable junctures of the main frame rails and engine cradle side rails being configured to predispose the intermediate sections of the engine cradle side rails to move downward and rearward during the collision.

  • Publication number: 20050155388
Abstract: Methods, apparatus and precursors for producing substantially water-free silica soot, preforms and glass. The methods and apparatus make substantially water-free fused silica preforms or glass by removing water as a reaction product, removing water from the atmosphere, removing water from the transport process, or combinations thereof. In a first embodiment, substantially water-free soot, preforms or glass are achieved by using a hydrogen-free fuel, such as carbon monoxide, in the deposition process. In another embodiment, a soot producing burner has parameters that enable operation on a substantially hydrogen-free fuel. End burners, which minimize water production, are also described. Such water-free methods are useful in depositing fluorine-doped soot because of the low water present and the efficiency in which fluorine is incorporated. In another embodiment, glassy barrier layer methods and apparatus are described for minimizing dopant migration, especially fluorine.

  • Publication number: 20050150709
Abstract: A dual-sectioned automotive propeller shaft features a weakened area in a first section. Under an axial load, the first section buckles transversely to a longitudinal axis of the shaft to absorb substantially all of the energy exerted against the shaft. A second section of the shaft is thereby isolated from consequences of the axial load enabling its placement and proximity to other components mounted to the undercarriage of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6644115
Abstract: A system for determining a level of a liquid present in a storage container in an automobile is disclosed. The system has a liquid level sensor for determining a preliminary liquid level of the liquid stored in the storage container, an ignition key position sensor for determining an ignition position, a vehicle speed sensor for determining the automobile's speed, a transmission gear selection sensor for determining a transmission gear position of a transmission of the automobile, and a processor. The processor receives input signals from the liquid level sensor, ignition key position sensor, the vehicle speed sensor and the transmission gear selection sensor for calculating the level of the liquid in the storage container.
