  • Patent number: 4930701
Abstract: Nozzle contained within tubular housing. An annular manifold concentrically surrounds and abuts the outside of the housing. The manifold communicates with an external source of water. A cylindrical transducer is located within the housing. A hollow cone having an exit opening formed by a truncated vertex and an open base forms the front of the nozzle. The face of the transducer which emits ultrasonic waves is situated adjacent to the base of the cone. An annular passageway concentrically surrounds the transducer. The passageway runs axially towards the front of the nozzle before turning radially inward towards the nozzle's centerline. The axial section of the passageway communicates with the manifold through radial ports. The section of the passageway that turns inward communicates with the base of the cone, and also directs flow of water so that its confluence is on the emitting face of the transducer. The water subsequently flows out the exit opening in a steady state column.

  • Patent number: 4685966
Abstract: Apparatus for continuously orienting an ultrasonic transducer so that the emitted ultrasonic waves remain at a normal angle of incidence to the opposing surface of an object while the transducer is being moved laterally across the surface in order to inspect the subsurface composition of the object. The sensor casing which contains the ultrasonic transducer pivots about one end of a tubular support arm, while the other end of the support arm pivots about a gearbox casing. A drive shaft passes through the support arm and has a miter gear on each end. One miter gear is engaged with a miter gear attached to the gearbox casing, and the other is engaged with a miter gear attached to the sensor casing so that the rotation of the drive shaft causes the simultaneous rotation of the support arm about the gearbox casing and, in the opposite direction, the rotation of the sensor casing about the support arm. The gearbox casing is attached to a carriage and has the freedom to roll relative to it.

  • Patent number: 4239059
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention an air inlet and outlet valve is disclosed which automatically opens and closes when a bottom operable tank lading valve is opened and closed. The air valve is mounted adjacent the top of the tank and is in fluid communication by means of a conduit with an opening in the tank. The air valve is automatically opened and closed when the lading valve opens and closes by means of an air valve linkage including an operating shaft which extends from the lading valve up through the tank to operate the air valve. The air valve is located in a chamber in the upper portion of the tank and seats on a valve seat located in the lower portion of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4108080
Abstract: A railway car truck assembly includes spaced side frames supported by truck journal bearings. A bolster extends transversely between the side frames. A spring assembly is supported on the spaced side frames and engages the lower surface of the boltster. The bolster includes a center bearing and a pair of side bearings mounted on either side of the center bearing. The side bearings receive the weight of the car body. Each of the side bearings includes an upper surface made of a first low friction material. The car body includes a depending center portion engaging the center bearing and spaced side portions having a lower surface made of a second low friction material engaging the side bearings. One of the first and second low friction materials is selected from nylon polyesters, polycarbonates, polyacetals and polysulfones. The other of the first and second low friction materials is selected from polytetrafluoroethylene.

  • Patent number: 4030424
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention a railway car truck is provided including a pair of transversely spaced side frames and a transom which is attached solely to the side frames with a rigid connection to define an integral H frame to maintain the side frames parallel and resist truck hunting. The transom has a cross section which provides torsional flexibility which allows the side frames to rock relative to one another. Above the transom a bolster is provided which extends transversely between the side frames and rests upon spring assemblies mounted in openings in the side frames. The weight of the car body is by car body bearing assemblies mounted on the bolster above the spring assemblies. A bolster center bearing is provided which engages the car body and transmits substantially all horizontal loads from the car body through the bolster to the side frames.

  • Patent number: 4015751
Abstract: A fluidizing assembly is provided having a readily removable and replaceable filter assembly. The filter assembly comprises a supporting grid member, a filter member and an open frame member upon which may be mounted a seal member. The fluidizing outlet assembly comprises an outlet body having a lower body flange and a bottom pan having an upper pan flange spaced below the lower body flange. A pair of filter assemblies are inserted between the lower body flange and the upper pan flange, and engages a filter support assembly located above a fluidizing header in the midportion of the outlet. Preferably the filter support assembly is provided with raised surfaces for forcing the filter assembly into operative position. The bottom pan includes passages in fluid communication with the fluidizing header which define a plenum for directing the fluidizing air below the filter member, and supports for the filter member.
