Patent number: 10308462Abstract: A plate configured to contact a web includes a first region having a first characteristic and a second region having a second characteristic different than the first characteristic. The plate has a substantially arcuate wall with an inner surface and an outer surface. A plurality of vacuum holes extends between the inner and outer surfaces and are configured to be in fluid communication with a vacuum source. A vacuum region is adapted to contact the first region of the web and a reduced-vacuum region is adapted to receive the second region of the web. The plurality of vacuum holes are configured such that, when attached to the vacuum source, a vacuum pressure at the vacuum region is greater than a pressure at the reduced-vacuum region so that the first region of the web is held against the plate with a greater force than the second region.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2013Date of Patent: June 4, 2019Assignee: KIMBERLY-CLARK WORLDWIDE, INC.Inventors: Patrick Dean Abney, Paul Douglas Beuther, Kevin Gerald Dolan, David John Enz

Patent number: 8973686Abstract: A cutter insert assembly for a drill bit for boring into the earth, comprising a super-hard structure clampable to a support body by means of a clamp mechanism; the clamp mechanism comprising opposed or opposable compression members connected or connectable by a tension member capable of sustaining a clamping force between the compression members when the cutter insert assembly is in a clamped condition, in which condition the compression members exert opposing compressive forces on the super-hard structure and the support body, operable to clamp the super-hard structure to the support body, and in which condition the cutter insert assembly is self-supporting and capable of being mounted onto a drill bit body.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2010Date of Patent: March 10, 2015Assignees: Element Six Limited, Element Six Abrasives S.A.Inventors: Gerald Dolan, John Hewitt Liversage, Habib Saridikmen, Richard Bodkin, Mehmet Serdar Ozbayraktar

Patent number: 8443427Abstract: According to one aspect, there is provided a method of controlling access to a network resource. The method comprises receiving a request to grant a user access to the network resource, the request including a user identifier, determining whether the received user identifier is stored in a local user data store associated with the resource, and where it is not so determined determining, from user details stored in a master user data store, whether the user is authorized to access the resource, and where it is so determined obtaining a password, and storing the obtained password and user details in the local data store associated with the network resource.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2010Date of Patent: May 14, 2013Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Gerald Dolan, John Couchot, Robert Astle

Patent number: 6890426Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for separating, immobilizing, and quantifying biological substances from within a fluid medium. Biological substances are observed by employing a vessel (6) having a chamber therein, the vessel comprising a transparent collection wall (5). A high internal gradient magnetic capture structure may be on the transparent collection wall (5), magnets (3) create an externally-applied force for transporting magnetically responsive material toward the transparent collection wall (5). The magnetic capture structure comprises a plurality of ferromagnetic members and has a uniform or non-uniform spacing between adjacent members. There may be electrical conductor means supported on the transparent collection wall (5) for enabling electrical manipulation of the biological substances. The chamber has one compartment or a plurality of compartments with differing heights. The chamber may include a porous wall.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2003Date of Patent: May 10, 2005Assignee: Immunivest CorporationInventors: Leon W. M. M. Terstappen, Gerald Dolan
