  • Patent number: 5279698
Abstract: A device for applying a fastening tab to an open edge of a folder mailing brochure to hold the brochure in a folded state including a feed mechanism, a drive assembly, and an application mechanism. The feed mechanism removes fastening tabs from a supply of fastening tabs and positions the fastening tabs relative to the application mechanism. The drive assembly is coupled to the feed mechanism and drives the feed mechanism. The application mechanism includes a pair of rotatable cylinders biased against each other. The supply of fastening tabs passes over the cylinders and when the open end of a folding mailing brochure is inserted into a gap between the cylinders, the cylinders act to apply a fastening tab over the open edge of the mailing brochure to secure the mailing brochure in a folded state.

  • Patent number: 5011579
Abstract: A process for treating naphthenic fractions with a caustic blend of sodium and potassium hydroxide, preflashing the naphthenic fraction to remove water and then flashing the dewatered fraction to remove the neutral oils and the materials that were not formed into the acid salts. The naphthenic salt mixture is then quenched and acidified so as to recover the naphthenic acids. Naphthenic acids recovered from the process of the present invention have acid numbers which are generally higher than the naphthenic acids heretofore produced from the corresponding feed streams. The process provides for the flashing of the water which otherwise would cause foaming and not permit the recovery of the acid salt for the enhanced separation of the naphthenic acids.

  • Patent number: 4560541
Abstract: A process is described for the formation of high purity alumina from aluminas such as Bayer Process alumina trihydrate (gibbsite) which contain both acid-soluble and -insoluble impurities, notably soda and silica. The solid hydrated alumina is reacted with a stoichiometric quantity of concentrated HCl to form a reaction product comprising of dissolved aluminum chloride and solid aluminum chloride hexahydrate (ACH). The acid and/or aluminum chloride concentration of the solution is then adjusted (as by water addition) to dissolve the solid ACH and form a solution at or near saturation in aluminum chloride, but with the remaining solid materials undissolved. The solution is then subjected to solid/liquid separation to eliminate the insoluble impurities, such as silica.

  • Patent number: 4541595
Abstract: In an aircraft having a pressure window mounted in the hull, an interior window assembly is removably mounted in an interior wall spaced from the hull. The interior window assembly is in register with the pressure window to enable occupants of the aircraft to view the outside. The interior wall has an opening formed therein to accept the interior window assembly and the portions of the wall surrounding the opening are biased toward the interior of the aircraft. The interior window assembly includes a windowpane mounted in a frame. The frame includes a flange that overlies the inboard surface of the portions of the wall surrounding the opening, and the bias of the wall portions is exerted on the flange. A constraint means is affixed to the hull of the aircraft and releasably engages the frame to constrain the frame from inboard movement. The bias force of the wall portions and the constraint means cooperate to hold the window in place.
