  • Patent number: 7533734
Abstract: A fire suppression device characterized by a plunger that is extendible from a housing for delivery of a fire suppressant foam. The plunger may be equipped at its outer end with a puncture tip that can penetrate through the wall of a container or cargo cover for delivery of the fire suppressant foam directly to the cargo, preferably after full or almost full extension of the plunger. The plunger may be driven outwardly under high force by a pressurized gas that may also be used as a propellant for mixing with a liquid foaming agent, preferably within a foaming chamber carried by the piston. Provision may also be made for connection to a source of pressurized fluid to effect retraction of the plunger.

  • Patent number: 5216515
Abstract: A novel cable interconnect system provides for the overnight delivery of advertising messages to optical disc libraries located at cable headends and for the automated and customized insertion of ads on a plurality of cable systems throughout a wide geographic area. A verification and accounting system provides ad run verification and accounting information. The cable interconnect enables the delivery of commercial messages, for example via satellite, on an overnight basis from a central control facility to cable television system headends located in any desired geographic area such that a large number of cable television systems can receive the video ads simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 4336820
Abstract: A device for adding a second fluid to a first flowing fluid in a fixed ratio regardless of the flow rate of the first fluid. The device comprises a venturi section having an inlet, an outlet and a throat therebetween through which the first fluid flows, and a regulating section that modulates the pressure of the second fluid such that the amount of second fluid delivered to the venturi throat is a fixed proportion of the first fluid flowing through the venturi section regardless of the flow rate of the first fluid. The device has particular application for adding anti-icing fluid to liquid fuel during filling of aircraft fuel tanks.

  • Patent number: 4282909
Abstract: A device for opening a door on an aircraft to expose a receptacle for receiving a fueling nozzle on another aircraft so that the first mentioned aircraft can be refueled in flight. The device has a hydraulically operated actuator for opening and closing the door and another hydraulically operated actuator for locking and unlocking latches engageable with the nozzle for holding it in the receptacle. The hydraulic system has a single valve for controlling flow of pressurized fluid through a single conduit to the door actuator for both door opening and door closing movement of the actuator piston. When closed, this valve isolates the hydraulic system from the pressure source so that no part of the hydraulic system is pressurized when the device is not in operation.

  • Patent number: 4126162
Abstract: A device for opening a door on an airplane to expose a refueling receptacle having latches for connection to a fueling nozzle deployed from a tanker airplane so that the airplane may be refueled in flight. The device has a hydraulic actuator for opening and closing the door, first valve means for controlling the first actuator, a second valve means for controlling another hydraulic actuator that locks and releases the latches, a spring for opening the door when there is a failure in the supply of pressure fluid for the first actuator, and a means to prevent closing of the door before the latches are released from the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 3980229
Abstract: A temperature controlled regulator in which valved air inlets communicated with air pressure sources at different temperatures control the flow of air into a mixing chamber to maintain the outlet temperature of the mixture within specified limits, said regulator being characterized in that the valve actuator has first and second chambers on opposite sides thereof respectively exposed to the pressure of the mixture and to a reduced air pressure between the downstream side of a variable area orifice controlled by a temperature sensor in the regulator outlet and the upstream side of a variable area pressure control or bleed orifice, the first-mentioned variable area orifice being decreased or increased in size by decrease or increase of the mixture temperature with reference to said specified value thus to vary the pressure in said second chamber in relation to the pressure acting in said first chamber to inversely vary the air flow through said inlets thus to maintain a specified temperature of the mixture.
