Accordingly a pre-reaction mixture containing a bis(hydroxyaryl) compound and a diaryl carbonate is formed and introduced through the top of a reactive rectification column under condition calculated to bring about a reaction. The resulting hydroxyaryl is eliminated and diaryl carbonate in vapor form is introduced at the bottom of the reactive rectification column.
