Patent number: 5601460Abstract: An environmentally protected electrical socket and plug assembly (10) retains environmental security throughout repeated connections and disconnections. The socket and plug assembly includes a socket 100 containing an electrical conductor 85 and adapted to insertably receive a plug 90, an environmental sealant 140 at least partially filling the socket so that the sealant is at least partially displaced from the socket when the plug is inserted into the socket, and an elastomeric containment means 40 having an inset dimple 50 for being outwardly deflected to contain displaced sealant when the plug is inserted into the socket and to urge the sealant back into the socket when the plug is removed.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1995Date of Patent: February 11, 1997Assignee: Raychem CorporationInventors: Gerald L. Shimirak, Jackie Thomas, Miguel Morales, Yogendra S. Dhanik, Darcey Messner

Patent number: 5598455Abstract: A test system directed to apparatus for transmitting and receiving multiple telephone transmission signals over a single twisted pair. The system converts an analog signal from a local switching station to an 80 ksymbols/sec signal for transmission over a twisted pair by a line card. A remote terminal converts the 80 ksymbols/sec signal back into a conventional analog signal for use in conventional telephone, facsimile or other related equipment. The test equipment separately tests the entire system, the line card portion of the system, the remote terminal portion of the system, and the twisted pair.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1994Date of Patent: January 28, 1997Assignee: Raychem CorporationInventors: David C. Patent number: 5449299Abstract: A modular, re-enterable telecommunications terminal (50), for making and breaking connections with insulated wire conductors, includes one or more base frames (52) supporting wire termination modules (55, 56) thereon, and a multi-pin socket (60) thereon is connected to another base froze (52) by one or more bridging modules (100). The termination modules (55, 56) are manually operable for terminating wires in insulation displacing connectors (70, 85), and are selected and positioned according to the type of terminations desired. Manually pushing and pulling the termination module drivers (65, 80) toward and away from the base frames (52) effects movement of the wires between connected and open positions.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1994Date of Patent: September 12, 1995Assignee: Raychem CorporationInventors: Gerald L. Shimirak, Gail J. Bingham, Miguel A. Morales, Ruben P. Ramirez

Patent number: 5273449Abstract: The invention provides for a modularized terminal block and an improved method of manufacturing the modular block. The block permits the connection of a plurality of drop wires or other devices in a reversible manner through the use of a standardized plug in module configuration. The module can be optimized for a given drop wire range which then uniformly connects to the base block through a standardized demateable contact. The mateable connectors each include a collapsible container filled with a sealant material such as gel or grease and an enclosed contact. Upon mating of the contacts, the deformation of the containers maintains the sealant material under compression.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1992Date of Patent: December 28, 1993Assignee: Raychem CorporationInventors: John S. Mattis, James C. Milroy, Paul von der Lippe, Gerald L. Shimirak, Paul S. Chan, Sebastiano Scarampi

Patent number: 5173060Abstract: A terminal block, by means of which a multi-core cable is connected to several drop wires, may be repaired by positioning an adapter over its binding posts. The adapter has an aperture into which a non-stripped, non-split, multi-core drop wire can be inserted such that one core of the drop wire is adjacent one binding post. Caps are then screwed onto the binding posts to make contact with respective cores, prebinding posts to make contact with respective cores, preferably by cutting through insulation of the drop wire. The adapter may be adjustable to suit different sizes of terminal block.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1990Date of Patent: December 22, 1992Assignee: Raychem CorporationInventors: Gerald L. Patent number: 5069636Abstract: This invention provides a terminal block or an adaptor where the binding posts and the caps which screw on the binding posts are adapted to receive small wires without breaking or cutting the wires when the cap is installed with normal installation torque for binding posts. The binding posts and cap can also receive large gauge wires and make connection therewith through the insulation on the wire without cutting or braking the conductor in the wire.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1990Date of Patent: December 3, 1991Assignee: Raychem CorporationInventors: Gerald L. Patent number: 4950343Abstract: A cable is sealed at a conduit such as an outlet from a housing and preferably also terminated and blocked by shrinking over it a conductive polymer article having at least three portions. An end portion is shrunk to engage cable jacket, an intermediate portion is heat-shrunk to drive an adhesive into interstices between the conductors of the cable, and an opposite end portion is shrunk to engage the conduit.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1988Date of Patent: August 21, 1990Assignee: Raychem CorporationInventors: Gerald L.
