Abstract: A process for preparing methanol from carbon dioxide and hydrogen in a methanol synthesis unit and working up the reaction mixture obtained stepwise to isolate the methanol, wherein the carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, dimethyl ether and methane components of value from the streams separated off in the isolation of the methanol from the methanol reaction stream are combusted with an oxygenous gas, and the carbon dioxide in the resultant flue gas is separated off in a carbon dioxide recovery unit and recycled to the methanol synthesis unit.

Abstract: A thermoplastic elastomer compound of an acrylic-containing styrenic block copolymer and plasticizer oil have been found to be capable of sintering at a temperature ranging from about 180 C to about 200 C when the copolymer and the oil are in no more than a 2:1 weight ratio. The compound can be used in rotomolding or slush-molding equipment to make plastic articles having elastomeric properties.

Abstract: A local identity management module is described that is able to identify each of a plurality of user devices. The user devices communicate with the outside world via a network address translation device that converts an internal address of the user devices to a single internet protocol address, typically the internet protocol address of the network address translation device. An external identity management system can communicate with the local identity management module in order to identify which of said plurality of user devices made a particular request and, in some embodiments, to identify a user of said user device.

Abstract: This invention provides a portable or fixed device for organizing and transporting items utilized by fisherman, hobbyists, tradesmen and the like. It comprises a main compartment containing a plurality of trays in which the items are organized and stored, and side and top compartments for organizing and storing items that are less suitable for storage in trays, such as elongated items and tools. The trays are held in the main compartment by a plurality of removable elastic cords which span the open front of the main compartment at such heights as to engage each tray at a point along its height. Trays can be removed by displacing the cords. Elastic cords also are provided to hold items in the side compartments. A cutting or work board can be is mounted on the back of the device, and slip-resistant surfaces can be installed on the top and the bottom. Handles can be provided for carrying the device, or the device can be built into the structure of a boat, a vehicle, or a fixed structure.

Abstract: A USB memory stick, or similar device, is provided having software installed thereon to enable a user to access restricted applications without a user device needing to handle user credential data. In use, the stick receives a request from the user device for access to an application, obtains first user identification information from the user device, uses the first user identification information and the application information to obtain user credentials from an identity management system, which user credentials are required by the application in order to grant the user access to the application, and provides the user credentials to the application without the user credentials needing to be provided to the user device.

Abstract: Systems and methods provide a redundant electrical power supply solution, where an AC power source is called upon when a photovoltaic subsystem is unavailable to meet the power consumption needs of telecommunications site equipment. In one aspect, a system for supplying electrical power includes a DC bus with which telecommunications site equipment is coupled, as well as a photovoltaic subsystem and a second power delivery circuit. The photovoltaic subsystem includes a solar photovoltaic array, a disconnect for controlling electrical connection between the solar photovoltaic array and the DC bus, as well as a DC/DC voltage converter. The second power delivery circuit includes a rectifier for converting incoming AC voltage from an AC power source to output DC voltage delivered at the DC bus upon sensing a condition where the photovoltaic subsystem delivers insufficient DC voltage to the DC bus.

Abstract: An improved sailboat swivel base consisting of a rotating arm that supports both a guide pulley on one end and a rope securing cleat on the opposite end. The arm swivels about a center bearing, housed in a base which is fastened to a fixed structure such as the deck of a boat. A sail control rope, passing through the guide pulley and secured by the cleat, is tensioned by the force of the sail. The tension force of the line pulls the guide pulley end of the rotating arm toward the sail and sends the securing cleat away from the sail. This rotation aligns the cleat with the direction of pull for easy operation. When the sailboat changes tacks and the sails reverse position the rotating arm will follow the sail to the new side and self-tack the swivel base.

Abstract: A power system that serves as a source of dedicated back-up power for a cooling system is disclosed. The power system utilizes a plurality of fuel cells, which produce direct current (DC) power. A conversion device, such as an inverter, is used to convert the DC into alternating current (AC) for powering the cooling system. A transfer switch connects the AC power from the inverter to the cooling system. The position of the transfer switch determines the source of AC power for the cooling system.

Abstract: The present invention is a back-up power supply of alternating current and direct current, with the alternating current being generated by an inverter from the direct current, which is produced by a fuel cell. The inverter is at least partially encompassed by a phase changing material having an elevated melting point such that the phase changing material absorbs heat generated by the inverter as well as in the surrounding air, thereby maintaining the inverter temperature within acceptable limits. As the phase changing material absorbs the heat, its temperature rises and melts. Upon cooling of the system, the phase change material re-solidifies.

The different segments of the nanowire may have differing properties, including a variety of magnetic, non-magnetic, and luminescent behavior. Differences in surface chemistry allow different segments of a single nanowire to be functionalized with different multiple functional groups and/or ligands, giving the wire chemical multifunctionality.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for designing a radiographic imaging system includes 1) receiving a number of design constraints for the system, and then 2) in response to the constraints, generating a plurality of radiographic imaging system designs, each having a different number of radiographic sources, and each requiring a different number of nominal scan passes to image a specimen region of interest. Designs having a greater number of radiographic sources have sets of translated radiographic detection areas sharing at least some coincident, nominal scan passes as compared to radiographic imaging system designs having fewer radiographic sources. Each set of translated radiographic detection areas is associated with a radiographic source that is replicated and translated with respect to a radiographic source that forms part of a radiographic imaging system design having fewer radiographic sources.
