  • Patent number: 8393272
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for cleaning a print media sheet and, more particularly, for cleaning a specific portion of sheet that is less than the entire length of the sheet. A device moves a cleaning roller between standby, cleaning fluid receiving and cleaning positions. Timing of cleaning roller movement into the cleaning position is controlled to ensure proper positioning of the cleaning roller with respect to the sheet during cleaning. In the cleaning position, the cleaning roller rotates so as to clean only the specific portion. In the cleaning fluid receiving position, the cleaning roller rotates to receive, from a cleaning fluid dispenser, a predetermined amount of cleaning fluid. Optionally, a retractable shutter can be selectively retracted to expose an opening in a sheet transport path guard and, thereby allow the cleaning roller to move into the cleaning position.

  • Patent number: 7164507
Abstract: An imaging system, which may be applied both to black and white and color imaging systems and comprising a platen member which defines an imaging portion and a calibration portion is disclosed. The imaging portion and the calibration portion comprise separate portions of the platen member. The platen member is supported by a movably mounted support member, and moves with the support member between a platen member calibrating position and a platen member imaging position. The platen member is dimensioned to support a sheet to be imaged. An imaging module with an imaging zone is supported in a position where the imaging zone is positioned to coincide with a portion of a sheet supported on the imaging portion of the platen member, when the platen member is in the platen member imaging position. A calibration member having a reference reflectivity is adhered to the calibration portion of the platen member.

  • Patent number: 5382015
Abstract: A document handling system adapted for delivery of documents to an imaging station of an imaging input terminal. The system includes a driven friction belt for transporting the documents across a platen of the imaging station. The belt is urged into planar orientation with the platen by slider plates which are ski-like members that bear upon the belt. The slider plates are arranged to bear upon the margins of the imaging area to smooth documents on the belt and to urge such document onto the platen, thus providing an improved imaging of documents delivered to the imaging station.
