  • Publication number: 20070252842
Abstract: A system and method for capturing and transposing vertically scanned documents in an imaging system uses a paged buffer memory, such as DDR SDRAM. Images are captured in the paged buffer memory by writing the images into memory cells in a series of columns, and images are transposed by reading the images from the memory cells in a series of rows. During transposition, the memory cells are partitioned into a plurality of column groups so that a plurality of consecutive pixels of a digitized image can be written on the same memory page. The image is read from the buffer memory in a series of rows arranged in a plurality of groups of consecutive pixels so that a plurality of consecutive pixels can be read from the same memory page.

  • Patent number: 6259829
Abstract: A method for identifying image data bits, especially where the image data is to be reliably co-identified with collateral document has been disclosed. Such “identification-bits” should be carried with the image data through various stages of processing, so the image's identity can be maintained at each processing station, and can be transferred to a downstream processing station. A salient object hereof is to identify image data; especially with “sync bits”.

  • Patent number: 5827008
Abstract: A pavement repair structure and method of repair for forming a bond between vertical surfaces in asphalt pavement. The repair structure comprises a flexible, internal layer that is impregnated with an adhesive asphalt medium to define an elongated strip. An additive agent is incorporated in the asphalt medium to reduce the tackiness and lower the temperature sensitivity of the asphalt medium. A cut in the asphalt pavement caused by either a saw or a jack hammer is sealed by using the repair structure to form an extremely strong bond between the vertical cut edge of the pavement and the patch of new asphaltic concrete mix. The repair structure is also able to form a bond which is waterproof and will resist cracking due to extreme temperatures as a result of severe climatic conditions, the thermal expansion and contraction which the pavement will experience, and deflection of the pavement under traffic loading.

  • Patent number: 5784503
Abstract: An electronic document-imaging arrangement wherein imaging means generates imaging-bits representing a given document and transfers these bits on a "per-document basis" to various successive electronic processing stages and, finally, to a data base storage unit (DBS); this arrangement also including a tag stage for creating tag bits unique for each such imaged document; these tag bits to be transferred with the imaging bits for each document to each such processing stage that handles the imaging bits, on a per document basis, and finally to DBS interface means for final matching and removal of the tag bits.

  • Patent number: 5768446
Abstract: In a system for processing and imaging documents to develop a stream of digital, video bit sets, each related to a different document is a passing array, this system including an arrangement for simultaneously compressing a number of said bit-sets for different document images and sending the results to output, this arrangement as comprising:a preprocessing stage for distributing each said bit set in a pair, of like parallel bit-compression paths, one, a Master path for half the bits in a set, the other a Slave path for the other half as controlled by The Master, with both input to a common buffer, each compression path being adapted to execute a first compression and then a conditional second compression when certain initial factors are indicated and to provide a real-time-compressed output to this buffer; andboth said compressions being performed on a single, two pass stage of a Histogram/Compressor printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 5007100
Abstract: A pipelined image processor is disclosed which contains a diagnostic apparatus which, under normal processing conditions, is coupled to and is in communication with resequencer, image processor, and transposer/compressor assemblies contained within the pipelined image processor. The diagnostic apparatus of this invention causes a diagnostic test pattern to be sent to the re-sequencer and image processor entities of the pipelined image processor and monitors the response thereof. This response is then used to detect faults which have occurred in these entities.

  • Patent number: 4627899
Abstract: An electrolytic cell is provided for a process which combines at compatible cell geometries and current densities, the electrowinning of a metallic element from an electrolyte with an anodic, electrochemical reaction using a cationic permselective membrane between half-cells to keep the reactions separate. The cell is operated by introducing a metal salt into a catholytic compartment, introducing a compatible electrochemical solution into an anolytic compartment, wherein both of said salt and said electrochemical solution are in an electrolysis cell having a cathode electrode and an anode electrode, and applying an electromotive force across said electrodes whereby an oxidation electrochemical reaction occurs at the anode while the metal of said metal salt is deposited at said cathode.

  • Patent number: 4601795
Abstract: A method of coating a metal substrate with a ternary or greater alloy of a redetermined composition is disclosed. Initially, a first and second metals are electrodeposited on the substrate using an aqueous electrolyte. At least one metal powder is simultaneously mixed in the electrolyte as the first and second metals are electrodeposited so that a portion of the metal powder is occluded in the electrodeposited metal coating. The rate of occlusion of the metal powder is controlled by the volume percent of the metal powder in the electrolyte. Finally, the metal coating and substrate are heat treated to diffuse the occluded metal powder in the coating and to form the desired alloy coating. A plurality of metal powders can be mixed in the electrolyte according to the present method. In addition, a diffusion barrier coating can be initially provided on the metal substrate. The method is particularly useful with iron-based metals such as stainless steel.

  • Patent number: 4122522
Abstract: System for monitoring performance of an aircraft during ground-related operating condition, such as take-off and landing, to predict whether the aircraft can safely complete the operation. The performance of various known types of aircraft is predicted as a function of the distance which the aircraft has traveled along a runway. The actual progress of a known type of aircraft along a runway is then monitored to determine the actual velocity and position of the aircraft. Using the performance model for the known aircraft type, the remaining distance required for the aircraft to accomplish a particular operation, such as to reach take-off velocity or to decelerate to a stop, is predicted. The predicted distance is compared with the actual runway distance remaining for the aircraft to travel, and an alarm signal condition is generated if the actual remaining distance is less than the predicted required distance.
