    Abstract: A process is provided for manufacturing homo- and copolyesters of lactic acid by ring scission polymerization of its cyclic monomers in the presence of an initiator. Polymerization is carried out in the molten phase in the presence of an initiator system containing a compound of tin and at least one additional initiator chosen from the compounds of metal of the fourth subgroup.
