  • Patent number: 4816522
Abstract: Halocarbons are readily bonded to a variety of substrates, including metals, polyolefins, styrenics, polyamides and thermoplastic polyesters, by treating the surface(s) to be bonded with a neoalkoxy zirconate compound. The articles produced by the aforesaid process resist delamination. Applicable fluorinated compounds include fluorinated polymers such as Teflon. The specific zirconate compound preferred is dependent on the particular substrate and the halogenated organic compound to be bonded. Preferred are organo-zirconates having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each monovalent hydrocarbon groups or substantive derivatives thereof; the A groups are independently selected from diester phosphates, diester pyrophosphates, oxyalkylamino, oxyalkylarylamino, or sulfonyl groups; B is an R'.sub.2 C group or a carbonyl group; R' is a hydrogen group or an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and n is 1 or 2.

  • Patent number: 4715968
Abstract: A process for rendering polymer compositions antistatic and the products of such process are described. The polymeric material is treated with selected amino and sulfonyl titanates and zirconates. These latter materials are soluble in the polyolefins, polyesters and polystyrenes and remain stable during the processing of these polymers. Furthermore, the antistatic agents of the invention do not "bloom" during the polymer processing.

  • Patent number: 4657988
Abstract: Polymeric materials are repolymerized by intensely admixing the polymer with an additive having the formula: ##STR1## wherein M is titanium or zirconium, R, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each a monovalent alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aralkyl, aryl or alkaryl group having up to 20 carbon atoms or a halogen or ether substituted derivative thereof, and, in addition, R.sup.2 may also be an oxy derivative or an ether substituted oxy derivative of said groups; A, B, and C are each a monovalent aroxy, thioaroxy, diester phosphate, diester pyrophosphate, oxyalkylamino, sulfonyl or carboxyl containing up to 30 carbon atoms; and a+b+c=3. The repolymerized polymers have improved physical properties and higher heat distortion temperatures, experience less thermal degradation and show greater solvolysis resistance than the polymers prior to the repolymerization.

  • Patent number: 4634785
Abstract: The invention relates to a new process for producing titanium IV and zirconium IV pyrophosphates, certain of which are new compounds, and their uses. The pyrophosphates are prepared by reacting a metal tetraester with phosphorus pentoxide, with or without the addition of an hydroxyl compound, such as an alcohol or a phenol. Depending on the molar ratio of the components, the compounds produced may contain cyclic or straight chain pyrophosphate groups and alkoxy groups attached to the metallic ion. In addition to forming new compounds, the process of the invention produces the desired products without difficult-to-separate by-products.

  • Patent number: 4261913
Abstract: This invention relates to adducts of tetra-substituted titanates and di-substituted hydrogen phosphites; the use of such adducts for treating particulate fillers, including pigments; the compositions of fillers and the aforesaid adducts with epoxy resins and other casting resins; the reaction product of said adducts with aromatic polyamines; the use of said reaction products for curing epoxide and urethane resins; and compositions of certain of the adducts and casting resins. The titanate-phosphite adducts serve to reduce the viscosity of filled epoxy resins, thereby permitting higher filler loading, to enhance the tinctorial power of pigments, and to render casting resins water-extendible. The titanate-phosphite adducts are the reaction products of one mole of a compound having the formula (RO).sub.4 Ti and two moles of di-substituted hydrogen phosphite, (R'O).sub.2 P(O)H, where R and R' are monovalent alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl or alkaryl.

  • Patent number: 4202810
Abstract: Cumylphenol and its ester derivatives may be used as accelerators in amine-cured epoxy systems. Also, cumylphenol and its derivatives have been discovered to be useful as reactive diluents for epoxy, phenol and urethane resins. The glycidyl ether, a new composition of matter, is also useful as a reactive diluent for urethane resins. Additionally, the ester derivatives are non-reactive plasticizers for urethane and the benzoate and higher acyl ester for rigid polyvinyl chloride. The benzoate and higher acyl esters are also new compositions.
