  • Patent number: 11034798
Abstract: A coating composition with a stable shelf-life for forming a transparent coating upon eyeglass lenses or other substrates having improved abrasion resistance and tintability. The composition comprising a silicone-based binder component, a curing agent component, and being substantially free of volatiles. The binder component comprises the partial hydrolysis product of an epoxy-functional alkoxysilane, a polyglycidylether, and an acrylic monomer. The curing agent component comprises a cationic photoinitiator and a free radical photoinitiator.

  • Publication number: 20070021523
Abstract: Coating compositions yielding cured coatings that exhibit excellent abrasion-resistance and hardness for use on polymeric substrates such as the front side of optical lenses, in a manner that meets or exceeds the stringent requirements for such use. The compositions include the hydrolysis product of an epoxy functional alkoxy silane, a viscosity-reducing amount up to 50% by weight, solids basis, of a monomeric (silanol free) epoxy functional epoxy silane, and colloidal silica present in an amount sufficient to improve abrasion resistance as compared to a composition lacking the colloidal silica.

  • Publication number: 20060292376
Abstract: A coating composition based upon at least partially hydrolyzed epoxy-functional alkoxy silanes and having particular utility in forming tintable, abrasion resistant coatings on lenses. Incorporation in the composition of a non-hydrolyzed epoxy-functional alkoxy silane provides a desired reduction in viscosity. Incorporation in the composition of a polyether surfactant provides a cured coating of the composition with increased tintability.
