    Abstract: A process is provided for protecting metallic surfaces such as stainless steel, against vanadosodic corrosion which utilizes at least one metal such as the alkaline earth metals which oxidizes in situ into a protective layer. The layer forms a compound with vanadium and/or sodium oxide which has a softening point higher than that of the oxide.
