Patent number: 9511557Abstract: Method of manufacturing a tire comprising a tread strip in which blind radial cuts are arranged in the blocks of rubber that form the tread pattern, comprising a step during which the cuts (33) are made in the unvulcanized tread strip (3) intended to cap the green tire. One or more blades (22) are raised to a temperature higher than the vulcanization temperature of the material of which the tread strip (3) is made are caused to penetrate the radially internal face (32) of the tread strip (3) for a sufficient period of time that they superficially vulcanize the walls of the cut in contact with the blade (22) so as to prevent the faces from sticking back together once the blade has been withdrawn from the cut.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2010Date of Patent: December 6, 2016Assignees: Michelin Recherche et Technique S.A., COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES ETABLISSEMENTS MICHELINInventors: Patrick Pallot, Gerard Crosnier, Richard Abinal

Patent number: 7857499Abstract: A viscoelastic material is extruded by kneading-and-conveying screws of different respective diameters positioned coaxially and telescopingly. A flight trough of a larger-diameter screw has radial orifices allowing a first space swept by the flight of the larger-diameter screw to communicate with a second space swept by a flight of a smaller-diameter screw. A fixed cylindrical tube arranged coaxially with the screws is disposed radially between the first and second spaces within the region in which the screws telescope. The tube has radial apertures therethrough to conduct material from the orifices to the second space. The first space is closed off at an axial end thereof by a wall where foreign substances accumulate that do not pass through the orifices. A passage through the wall can be opened to remove the accumulated substances without interrupting the extrusion operation.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2007Date of Patent: December 28, 2010Assignee: Michelin Recherche et Technique S.A.Inventors: Serge Nicolas, Gérard Crosnier, Bruno Dussardier

Patent number: 7708547Abstract: A method of the type in which a strip of rubber is moved continuously from a rubber-supplier device to a consumer device. During the continuous movement and prior to reaching the consumer device, a portion, referred to as the residue, is taken continuously from the strip of rubber. The residue is taken by continuously cutting the strip of rubber. For example, the supplier device includes upstream storage means for storing the strip of rubber from which the strip is moved toward the extruder, and downstream storage means in which the residue is stored. After the strip of rubber on the upstream storage means has been used up, the upstream and downstream storage means are swapped with each other.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2008Date of Patent: May 4, 2010Assignee: Michelin Recherche et Technique S.A.Inventors: Serge Nicolas, Gérard Crosnier, Daniel Goy

Patent number: 5935619Abstract: The invention relates to an extrusion head (3) for manufacturing a product ade of a rubber compound, provided with an inlet passage (41) for said rubber compound to pass into an accumulation chamber emerging in an extrusion orifice (6) through which said rubber compound is forced and which includes a wall (8) acting cooperatively with a rotating roller (7) in order to define the profile of the product, the extrusion head (3) comprising a coating device (15) which puts a material based on a rubber compound into the accumulation chamber (4) directly between the inlet passage (41) and the extrusion orifice (6) and distributes it on the surface of the roller (7) in order to superpose, from above, the product issuing from the inlet passage (41). The "coating" material may consist of the strands of flash coming from deflashing the edges of the extruded product, the coating device therefore constituting a flash recycling device.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1997Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin - Michelin & CieInventor: Gerard Crosnier
