  • Patent number: 8553940
Abstract: A method of forming a time-varying signal representative of at least variations in a value based on pixel values from a sequence of images, the signal corresponding in length to the sequence of images, the method includes acts of obtaining the sequence of images. A plurality of groups of sub-sets of pixel values are formed by selecting a sub-set of at least one pixel value from each of at least two images defining an interval to form a group of associated sub-sets. For any pair of groups with only sub-sets from the same images, the sub-sets from more than one image are different. Groups of sub-sets are selected to form the signal in accordance with at least one selection criterion. The selected groups of sub-sets cover different intervals, shorter than a length of the sequence.

  • Publication number: 20110280494
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating an enhanced image is provided. The method includes receiving (101) an image to be enhanced. A set of sub images is generated (103) from the image where the different sub images correspond to different spatial frequency bands for the image. A pixel value variation is determined (107) in a neighborhood region of the first pixel region for at least a first pixel region of the image. An enhanced pixel region is then generated (109) for the enhanced image by combining the first pixel region and corresponding pixel regions of sub images in response to the pixel value variation. Specifically, a weighted summation of the input image and sub images may be generated with the weights being determined in response to the luminance variance in the neighborhood region. The invention may e.g. provide improved contrast enhancement with reduced artifacts and/or noise.

  • Publication number: 20110262055
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of generating an image scaling curve, where local saliency is detected in a received image. The detected local saliency is then accumulated in the first direction. A final scaling curve is derived from the detected local saliency and the image is then possibly rescaled in a second direction by using the derived scaling curve, wherein the second direction is substantially orthogonal to the first direction.

  • Publication number: 20110002540
Abstract: A color image is enhanced in the following fashion. A saturation detector (SDT) detects a degree of color saturation (LC, CC) that occurs in an image area (SP). A filter arrangement (DE1, DE2, DE3) filters at least one spatial detail in the image area to a degree that depends on the degree of color saturation. This allows an improvement of perceptual quality of color images.
