  • Patent number: 6276126
Abstract: An axially symmetric turbojet-engine exhaust nozzle which is directable as a unit. The exhaust nozzle is situated downstream of an exhaust duct (1) fitted with a spherical wall (5). A single control ring (12) driven by linear actuators (30) allows regulation of the nozzle cross section and direction. Converging flaps (7) are guided on an upstream side by the spherical wall (5) and are supported at a downstream side by a control lever (13) which hinges on the control ring (12) and rests upstream on an external surface (16) of the spherical wall (5). Diverging flaps (10) hinge on the converging flaps (7) to form an inner ring of hot flaps. The diverging flaps (10) are situated downstream in an extension of the converging flaps (7) and further hinge on an outer ring of cold flaps (11), which in turn hinge on the control ring (12).

  • Patent number: 6185926
Abstract: An exhaust assembly for a jet powerplant of a supersonic airplane comprising a rear structure fitted with a thrust reverser. The rear structure includes a primary multi-flap nozzle of variable cross-section situated downstream of a primary duct, a secondary multi-flap nozzle of variable cross-section situated downstream of a secondary duct enclosing the primary duct and a fairing enclosing the secondary duct and fitted with a throat downstream of an exhaust orifice of the secondary nozzle, the throat being followed by a diverging portion. The thrust reverser comprises two eyelids affixed in a pivotable manner to the fairing, one on each side to of an axial plane of symmetry. The eyelids are movable between an active, thrust-reversal position wherein the eyelids project transversely into a gas jet downstream of the fairing to deflect the gas jet in a forward direction for thrust-reversal and an inactive, forward-thrust position wherein the eyelids are situated in an extension of the fairing.

  • Patent number: 6082669
Abstract: The system (13) for admitting external air (12) into a working section (11) of a gas turbine engine through a jacket (10) of the working section is characterised by the combination of doors (15) sliding towards the front (ramps) and rotating doors (14). The ramps (15) are fitted with grooved lateral arms (30) in which run wheels mounted on the doors (14). When they reach an ascending part (33) of the grooves (31) after sufficient movement of the ramps (15) towards the front, they are caused to rise, which opens the doors (14). This system can be used on double flow gas turbine engines for supersonic aircraft.

  • Patent number: 5934564
Abstract: A variable geometry exhaust nozzle is disclosed for a turbojet engine having a rear portion, the nozzle having an outer flap ring with a plurality of driven outer flaps and a plurality of outer interlock flaps, each outer flap being pivotally connected to the rear portion of the turbojet engine, and an inner flap ring having a plurality of inner forward driven flaps and a plurality of inner forward interlock flaps, each having a forward portion pivotally attached to the rear portion of the turbojet engine, the inner flap ring also having a plurality of inner rear driven flaps and a plurality of inner rear interlock flaps, each inner rear flap having a front edge portion pivotally connected to a rear edge portion of a corresponding inner forward flap.
