  • Patent number: 7812060
Abstract: A method of treating off-gas from a Fischer-Tropsch reaction comprises recovering the off-gas and hydrogenating a portion of the olefins present in the off-gas and converting a portion of the carbon monoxide present in the off-gas to carbon dioxide or methane. The treated off-gas is then fed to a hydrogen manufacturing unit such as a steam reformer to form hydrogen that can be used elsewhere in the process.

  • Publication number: 20090038992
Abstract: A process for the removal of sulphur compounds and carbon dioxide from a gas stream comprising sulphur compounds including hydrogen sulphide and mercaptans, the process comprising the steps of: (a) washing the gas stream with an aqueous amine washing solution to remove hydrogen sulphide, any carbon dioxide, and part of the mercaptans to obtain a first purified gas stream; (b) passing the first purified gas stream through one or more molecular sieves to further remove mercaptans to obtain a second purified gas stream; (c) contacting the second purified gas stream and a hydrogen stream with a hydrogenation catalyst under hydrogenation conditions to obtain a third purified gas stream; and (d) passing the third purified gas stream through one or more hydrogen sulphide guard beds to obtain purified gas. The invention further provides a method for the start-up of such process.

  • Publication number: 20080234397
Abstract: A method of treating off-gas from a Fischer-Tropsch reaction is disclosed, the method comprising the steps of: (i) recovering the off-gas from a Fischer-Tropsch reaction, and (ii) hydrogenating a portion of the olefins present in said off-gas. In preferred embodiments the hydrogenated off-gas is used as a feed for a hydrogen manufacturing unit based on steam reforming. Carbon monoxide can be oxidised or methanated. A CuO/ZnO based catalyst can be used to hydrogenate the olefins. The present invention allows Fischer-Tropsch off-gas (containing unconverted syngas, olefins, C1-C4 hydrocarbons and inerts) to be recycled which is more efficient than using it as fuel.

  • Patent number: 7413681
Abstract: A process for partial oxidation of a hydrocarbon gas or liquid, involving the steps of partial oxidation and removal of soot by forming a slurry having water and carbon from the gaseous oxidation product, and separating part of the water from the slurry to obtain a soot composition having less water, wherein the separation is performed by means of a decanter centrifuge.

  • Publication number: 20070011945
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system for producing synthesis gas comprising CO and H2. The system comprises a first gasification reactor and a second gasification reactor. The first one has an inlet for a first oxygen containing stream, an inlet for a first carbonaceous stream, and an outlet for raw synthesis gas produced in the first gasification reactor. The second one has an inlet for a second oxygen containing stream, an inlet for a second carbonaceous stream, and an outlet for raw synthesis gas produced in the second gasification reactor. A source of an oxygen containing stream is selectively connected to the inlet for the first oxygen containing stream of the first gasification reactor and to the inlet for the second oxygen containing stream of the second gasification reactor via a distributor.
