  • Patent number: 5899106
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a shaped metal can comprising, on one hand, a bottom (1), a cylindrical peripheral wall (2) in one piece with the bottom (1) and including at least one geometrically expanded region (2A, 2A) and, on the other hand, a lid crimped or seamed on the peripheral wall (2). The process comprises effecting in the region to be geometrically expanded a controlled folding in the form of folds of an accordion of the peripheral wall (2) an on the whole of the height of the region to be geometrically expanded to increase the volume of the metal available in this region, and unfolding the accordion folds of the peripheral wall to obtain a geometrically expanded region (2A, 2B).

  • Patent number: 5187966
Abstract: The device comprises a punch (2) of frustoconical shape and a die (1). The die comprises concentric rings (8, 9, 10) movable in the direction of the displacement of the punch, and pressure means (14, 15, 16) for exerting on the rings a predetermined force in the direction toward the punch, each of the annular front surfaces (20, 21, 13) of the rings having a shape which is complementary to the annular surface (20', 21', 13') of the punch in axially facing relation thereto.

  • Patent number: 5174146
Abstract: The method forms a part in relief on a sheet metal blank (10) by means of a die and a punch. There are carried out on at least a localized zone of the blank (10 of FIG. 2), whose dimension exceeds the dimension of the part in relief, a preforming operation and a shaping operation resulting in the forming of the part in relief. In the course of the preforming operation, a succession of stepped undulations are progressively produced in an intermediate zone of the localized zone located between the future high part of the part in relief and the periphery of the localized zone, and, in the course of the shaping operation, the stepped undulations of the intermediate zone are progressively unfolded and the part in relief is simultaneously formed. The invention also provides a device for carrying out this.

  • Patent number: 5147058
Abstract: The lid for a sealed container openable along a line of reduced strength merely by exerting a pull is of the type comprising a substantially right-angles fold (4) constituting a line of reduced strength which is formed by a stamping operation on a sheet of steel having a thickness less than or equal to 0.16 mm. The line of reduced thickness permits the complete or partial opening of the container. The lid is preferably composed of 0.10 to 0.16 mm thick steel and, at the fold (4), the inside radius of curvature of the lid is 10 to 50 .mu.m and the outside radius of curvature of the lid is 100 to 200 .mu.m. The invention is applicable to sealed metal containers, such as food beverage cans or trays for pre-cooked dishes.
